The two top nominated films haven't even hit theaters yet. They will have been in release for 17 days when the awards are announced.
That's pretty lame. "Benjamin Buttons" seems like the worst kind of Oscar Bait to me. Right up there with "Simple Jack". Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it. |

That's pretty lame. "Benjamin Buttons" seems like the worst kind of Oscar Bait to me. Right up there with "Simple Jack". Yeah, but members of the academy have seen them for months prior to release. The only qualification for awards shows (Oscar, Globes, etc...) is that they are released to the public before the end of the year. Here's from their website: HOLLYWOOD, CA, April 22, 2008 – Jorge Camara, President of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, announced the timetable for "The 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards" to be telecast Sunday, January 11, 2009 from 8-11 PM (EST) live from The Beverly Hilton on NBC. Key dates are as follows: October 31, 2008 Friday Final date for press conferences for Television entries November 7, 2008 Friday Deadline for submission of Golden Globe entry forms November 26, 2008 Wednesday Deadline for nomination ballots to be mailed by Ernst & Young to all HFPA members December 6, 2008 Saturday Final screening date for Motion Pictures December 7, 2008 Sunday Final date for Motion Picture press conferences December 8, 2008 Monday Deadline for receipt by Ernst & Young of nomination ballots December 11, 2008 Thursday 5:00 a.m. Nomination announcement of “The 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards” December 12, 2008 Friday Deadline for receipt of media credential applications December 22, 2008 Monday Final ballots mailed by Ernst & Young to all HFPA members December 31, 2008 Wednesday Deadline for receipt of publicist credential applications January 7, 2009 Wednesday Deadline for receipt by Ernst & Young of final ballots January 11, 2009 Sunday Presentation of “The 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards” Live telecast on NBC Television at 8 p.m. EST |

I love 24, but can't believe Kiefer gets nominated for yelling "damnit" for 2 hours. Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it. |

I live in Los Angeles and "awards season" drives me nuts. Who fucking cares! It's the one thing that bugs me about living in this otherwise cool/crazy town. The Oscars, Grammys and all that shit. I hate it. The actors sound so phony and the industry people and hell, most Angelenos, take this shit so seriously. Really? What won best picture last year? I sure as hell don't remember. People actually have Oscar parties and shit. I don't remember Oscar parties back in Texas.
Oh boy the hick in me just came out. end or rant! "...literal people are scary, man literal people scare me out there trying to rid the world of its poetry while getting it wrong fundamentally down at the church of "look, it says right here, see!" - ani difranco

Oh boy the hick in me just came out. end or rant! Who cares when it comes to any form of entertainment, really? Film, TV, music, sports, it's all very trivial in the big picture. Having said that, I try to see as many Oscar-nominated films as possible before the awards are announced.

Agreed. Did you notice that he wrote a song for the film too??? I really thought Changeling would have had more nominations. Oh well.

I did notice that the music was credited to his name, he has done that before I found out.....impressive! 'Changeling' is easily one of the better movies that I've seen this year, and Jolie played her best part ever! Her nod is just! Eastwood has won many awards in his live, but the man keeps getting better as he ages.....both as actor & director. can't wait to see 'Gran Torino'.

Edit: that being said, i don't want him to win. He did an amazing job but i'd rather he didn't win. [Edited 12/14/08 17:55pm]

I agree that Heath's death did cause the whole shebang to get more hype than it deserved. But his Joker really was that good. kaptainkrunk must have been reading other reports than I was, because I can't recall even one pre-death negative review of Ledger as the Joker, unless you count homophobic Bat-fans bitching and moaning about the Clown being played by the "fag cowboy". People who were actually privy to the performance first-hand all raved about it. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"
