The first time I saw it, me and two members of my team were in a dark room watching it....scared the daylights out of me because it was different...after the second and third viewing, however, I still kick myself for being even the slightest bit alarmed...

...overall, a nice little diversion but it doesn't hold up to multiple viewings....though it would've been much better if they would've beaten the guy who lost the map to death...
He was like a cock who thought the sun had risen to hear him crow.

I liked it, it really forces you to use your imagination, and mine totally runs away with me and scares me sillier than any old movie could eek

I didn't hate it but I would have if it weren't for the very last shot of the film.
I wouldn't watch it again. It's just so tedious. The advertising for it was awesome though. Better than the movie itself.

I liked it a lot. I imagined really creepy things watching it.

It's a great movie because it makes the unseen whatever the watcher would consider to be the most terrifying. You don't see anything, so you imagine it to be what would scare you the most.

Or at least I did....I have a vivid imagination though.

If anyone's interested, I saw a fairly low budget movie called Alien Abduction : Incident in Lake County the other night. It's filmed in the same kind of way and it was pretty enjoyable. It's quite old so it might be hard to find, but it's worth it.

My sister and I were asking questions out of amazement and confusion, we liked it until we found out that shit wasn't real. lock

Oh and because of that we didn't see part 2.

There's been a thousand and one indie horror films like it since, so the novelty is not really there watching it today. But at the time, it was very entertaining for the reason that it setup enough of the picture for you and allowed your imagination to fill in the blanks. That's going to work wonderfully for some and pose some difficulties for others.

it scared the living shit out of me. i made the mistake of driving home through the country in the middle of summer with my brights on and corn fields on either side of the road.

i was so scared, i couldn't even bring myself to go get the doggy bag from dinner out of my car, and it was only 10 feet from the back door.

I went up to Albury Wodonga and stayed in a houseboat for a couple of nights after seeing it, and in the middle of the night, which should have been really silent, I couldn't sleep because of all the twigs snapping from across the river exactly like the sounds in the movie shake

i seriously went temporarily insane with my hatred for this movie when it came out. it was beyond stupid, but the "artsy" crowd was trying to act like if you didn't like it, you were addicted to "special effects". no, i just like real ACTING.

I LOVE IT. It was also very very important in cinema history, causing a huge wave of style copycats even on tv, and an inspiration to many aspiring filmmakers.

Hype ruins many movies. I saw it on a sneak preview for free before it got picked up by a major distributor, and we were laughing going in, and terrified coming out.

With this, either you are under its spell or not. Kind of like how many moms used to see no value in Star Wars when I was a kid.

I put it on short list of great horror movies. Another great one that was influential was Jacob's Ladder. I think that inspired the wave of Japanese horror, that is now copied by all the American horror.

When you grow up with the threat that the witch will snatch you in the middle of the night if you're not good, it's not really hard for those memories to start breathing again. I too saw this before it the theaters and it, quite honestly, flipped me out.

I liked it. I found it fascinating how quickly the friends turned on each other after being lost for a day or so. The ending was very scary.
