When Did Stores Start Opening On Holidays?

I remember a time when stores would be closed on holidays- now everybody is open until like 4 or 5 p.m- even christmas

can't quite remember when they started opening their doors on holidays

I guess it's because of the economy. Everyone is hurting. Stores want more shoppers. It's weird though because there may not be any shoppers BECAUSE of the economy. It's kind of a catch 22.

it started before the current economy. it's greed, that started in the 90s.

I don't think there are any stores open here other than gas stations...
Perhaps it's regional?

Christmas was the one day a year that our grocery store would close completely...every other day we were open till about 6pm.
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

it's like here in the US people are not entitled to a break-

when I visited France I noticed that most store owners closed for 2 hours for lunch.

when the first shopper went to said store. If there was no demand to shop, it wouldn't be profitable for the store to remain open.
