it's actually against the malls' rules. Those kiosks, when they first open, they behave. after a couple of months, when the mall see that they are good, they look the other way.
I worked in a kiosk. I hated approaching people. Thankfully this job required too much bullshitting and so I was not qualified for it, since I kept telling clients how shitty the products are.

Ariel, in my experiece a lot of employees at those kiosks, both in Canada and the U.S., are Israeli. What sort of programs are going on that that would be the case? Are they in cooperation with some type of work-study program?

Yeah, I was going to ask the same thing.

But like you said Lamm, I have no problem with a cute Israeli girl rubbing my hands down. razz

I hate the lotion people - they are sooo obnoxious. I had my first encounter with the flatiron people yesterday. I don't see why they don't get that if people do not approach you, they're not interested!

Exactly! If I'm out in the mall with a nice curly hairstyle, WTF would make them think I want them to straighten it for me?! mad

Okay, so, one thing that REALLY irritates me is when I'm walking thru the mall and someone working at a kiosk stops me and/or interrupts my conversation with someone else to sell me their product! IF I WAS INTERESTED, I WOULD HAVE STOPPED TO INQUIRE!!! pissed

Today: I ran into a store to make an exchange; I left my Mom in the car. This chick came out of nowhere and tried to interest me in "eyebrow threading". rolleyes When I tried to politely tell her I wasn't interested, that HEIFER told me I NEEDED IT! omg
I yelled at her and asked her if she was telling me there was something wrong with my face?! mad

I apologize to those of you who do this job; it's an honest living. HOWEVER, please do not harass people. disbelief

I am sorry that you encountered an aggressive saleswoman. hug

The first time that I had a similar experience was earlier this year. mad Ever since that one incident, every mall I've been to has kiosk people that use an arsenal of tactics to get me to buy their junk. neutral I just keep on walking and pretend I haven't seen them.

A lot of these kiosks are owned by Israelis. Israelis are considered pushy people who know how to charm to sell, plus they know how to take advantage of people. Both the customers and employers.

Because sometimes they don't take "no thank you" for an answer! They follow you, or try to thrust the product in front of you....

"I'm allergic" how about that! I'm using that one lol

the pixie photo people always accost us in K-Mart to get portraits of the kids done. They lurk in the toy aisles.
My husband got pretty sick of them. Once when the lady said "would you be interested in a free sitting and discounted prints of the kids" he replied "but have you SEEN our kids?!? omfg
the lady started looking frightened.

I actually AM allergic. I hate the ones who THEN try to tell me that their stuff is "hypo-allergic". disbelief

One of my students came in one time with a bad rash on the backs of both his hands. He said he let some cute girl put some stuff on him at the mall! omfg

Chocolate1, I am allergic to that crappy lotion too. Every time I've told them that I am allergic they insist that their product is hypoallergenic. mad

These people wont stop at nothing. eek

I am sure you don't look like that. I think that she's the one that needs to fix something in herself....like making a living on a more respectable job. One that does not require bullshitting customers.

And depending on the mall, it's not that simple. At one mall near me, I literally turned around and screamed: "Don't U DARE follow me!" And he yelled back, "What's YOUR problem?!" So I told him. Loudly. We got into it, and I had to report him to the mall. My sister was mortified! omg

omfg What a moron!! mad

nod I can so relate to that. The worst therapist I have ever had was a woman from Israel. She was very skilled with words and quite pushy.

There aren't really any malls in Manhattan and the one that I can think of is pretty upscale (Shops at Columbus Circle--Tourneau, Thomas Pink, TUMI, Swarovski, Godiva, Coach, Stuart Weitzman, etc.) so there are NO pesky kiosks to be found. shrug

In Manhattan you get hassled on the street instead of in the mall. lol

I don't understanmd Y U're not getting it.
I only yelled at the guy who grabbed my hand that time with the lotion AND the bitch who told me I needed to get my eybrows done. I don't make a HABIT of yelling at all of them!

When I said I was rude, I meant I keep walking and LET THEM KNOW I'm not interested with my body language.

I'm very lucky. I walked past a few today, in this country all you need to do is avert your eyes. They don't come after you, they couldn't care less. Obviously they don't work on a commission here lol
