Woman Demands Lotto Winnings From Man She Separated From In 1982 http://www.wftv.com/news/...tail.html#
Wednesday, November 19, 2008 – updated: 8:46 am EST November 20, 2008 POLK COUNTY, Fla. -- A Polk County man won nearly $2 million in the lottery, but Tuesday he was in a court battle over the cash with his estranged wife. William and Ida Cody have been separated since 1982, but Ida insists they were always on good terms and she even loaned him the money to buy the winning ticket. She said he promised to share the winnings with her. STRANGE PHOTOS VIEW 99 PICS of strange news "You didn't say you would be willing to split the jackpot?" William Cody was asked in court. "No, I didn't say that to Ida, to nobody," he responded. Attorneys hope to wrap up testimony sometime late Tuesday afternoon. Ida wants half the money, but she could be awarded a lesser amount or nothing at all. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

The issue isn't that they've been separated for 26 years. It's the old "he said she said" issue of whether or not: (1) she lent him the money to buy the ticket; and/or (2) he promised to split the winnings with her.
My old company had a case once where a guy claimed that we had promised to share all the money we ever made in a certain industry with him 50/50, whether he was involved or not. We got it thrown out on summary judgment but then part of it was reinstated on appeal. We eventually settled for paying his attorney fees.

If she did, he only owes her the price of a ticket. And maybe Thank you card and some flower. I'm not mad at you, I'm mad at the dirt.

WTF??
This has nothing to do with her being a woman, him being a man, her being separated recently from him or not, or any "female entitlement". If the dude said he would split it if he won, she deserves half. And let's be realistic here, if she specifically lent him money to get a lotto ticket, it's a pretty high probability that they talked about the whole "what if you won" situation. If it's proven that he said that - she should get exactly what he promised. It's just stupid to make this about anything more than that.

I've heard of cases like this before. If it's not a legal separation or divorce she could get part of the winnings. No More Haters on the Internet.

It's got nothing to do with them having been a couple. |
