Learning Wushu Hey all! I'm new to the forums and thought I would introduce myself. Obviously my name is Colyr (pronounced Col-eer). I am learning wushu, what most call kung-fu, but that is the incorrect term. The style I am learning is called Chang Quan (Long style boxing). It is the style that Jet Li started off with. Anyone into martial arts?
Prince was my childhood hero. I wanted to write, sing, play guitar just like him. I was not blessed with that talent though. I am still a fan; however wish he would get back to the rock side of his talent, more guitar. I am looking forward to starting new friendships here, so anyone that wants or needs to talk send me a pm. Don't have anyone to talk to, so give me a holla. Love for all Colyr

Welcome to Prince.org.
Wrong forum though. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Welcome, Colyr.
You may want to keep your eyes peeled for an orger named Chiltonmusic. He's a martial artist, though I'm not sure what specific form he takes up. When he's around (and he's not always), he frequents the P&R forum. What got you into Chang Quan? Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

I read Jet Li's bio and found out that was the style he first learned, so I watched a bunch of Utube videos. I was hooked then. It is very smooth and acrobatic, so I started studying.

I was doing the styles that Jet Li uses in "The One" Hsing I & Ba Kua! As well as Tai Chi! The 3 internal styles! Those are cool styles, very difficult to learn. I prefer the acrobatics and fast moves of Chang Quan, but I like to watch those styles. Still can't land in the split like him tho. I'll get it just have to practice more. Snowing here so I can't practice outside, but I'll get it soon. Maybe I'll make a video when I get good enough, emphasis on MAYBE. lol By the way, did you know that in the cartoon The Avatar: the last air bender, The avatars style is based on BA Gua. The circle walk looks cool, but difficult to learn. [Edited 11/20/08 18:11pm]

The circle walk is tough. Walking in a fluid motion while your upper body is turned towards the centre of the circle really tests your strength & balance. Which is why they usually start with Hsing I! The Chinese Military are trained in that style! If U like aerail style Wu Shu check out one of the best non Asian exponents! www.raypark.com

If you like Hsing I, check out Chin Na! Yeah! They're similar. Hsing I is more destructive. It tends to be 4 base moves. Deflect. Grab. Twist. Pound. In real world situations it is very effective. I've only had to use it once. And the guy on the recieving end didn't know what hit him! It's Ray Park's fault I got into this! After seeing him as Darth Maul, I thought "I gotta do this!" He's a good example of technique! Always in the coiled posture between each move. Always grouded when moving and parrying!
