exactly, it's very dangerous, but how many people have driven drunk? I realized the other day that looking for parking in San Francisco is like driving drunk. Only about 5% of my mind is driving, the rest is looking for a space. It's easy to judge, but we're all guilty at times.

I've driven onto the freeway while holding a quarter pounder, steering with my knees so I could shift gears.

What I don't get is how people actually DO it. When eating or talking on your cell phone while driving, your eyes are still on the road, right? How do you text and drive if you're looking at your cellphone all the time?

I've seen it done, and you hold the phone at the top of your steering wheel, so you can glance back & forth from the road to the phone, sort of like looking in the rear view or at your speedometer

Some people are like Slinkies...

They're good for nothing but they still bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.

dude, I know some folks that know their keyboard well enough that they rarely look at it while texting...it's like some sort of 6th sense lol

and you're right, your eyes are on the road while eating...until mustard drips on your new shirt... biggrin

That's why I don't eat in my car either. lol

unfortunately, you're right...
people take the whole activity of driving way too lightly...we're bombarded by distractions as drivers...it could be roadside billboards, other drivers, car stereos, cell phones, etc...in my opinion, one isn't any worse than the other...

texting while driving should have been illegal before driving while talking on the cell phone.

I think it's cause texting is the thing now.. where as probably 5 years ago it wasn't .. people did it, but it's like now it's an overload... everybody is doing it..

It's also because it almost goes without saying. Like there's probably no law against driving while sitting backwards in your seat, but that seems dangerous.

Also I don't see many people text while they drive, but I've nearly been hit by someone on their phone numerous times.

U open up ur eyes and come 2 realize
u simply imagined this
So u lean over and give her a kiss
Here on earth, here on earth,
with u it's not so bad
Here on earth, here on earth
eye don't feel so sad
Stay right here

Well, we all know it's a bad thing to do, but I doesn't mean that I won't open a text or reply because I read this story. I think most people think that it would never happen to them. I will say this though: I usually wait until I'm stopped at a redlight to reply neutral But I will read a text while driving. Still bad.

People who use their phone or text while driving are self-important assholes.

But, to be fair, the pills probably had more to do with this accident than whatever oh-so-important lulz he was sending to his friends.

I'll be honest, I'm completely terrified of traffic and the idea of driving, much for these reasons.

That might well be the case, but even without texting I'd question why the hell he thought it was a good idea to drive if he'd been taking Vicodin and Xanax? Sounds to me like this guy is just a first-class jackass no matter how you slice it.

Uh, yeah, that's what I was thinking. I'm pretty sure that had more to do with it than actually texting. eek
