If you see someone you think you know, you can poke them. If they accept the poke, it means for a limited time you can view their profile, to make sure it is the person you would like to befriend. Or something like that.

my experience of FaceBook is this:
I met a girl on TV, I wanted to keep in contact with her, so I joined FaceBook to see her photos.
I found some kids I knew when we were little and wrote messages to each other to say what we have been doing last 30 years.
Made friends with a whole lot of orgers, which I am ALSO friends with on myspace and HERE confused
then basically got bombarded each day with YouTube clips and crap from everyone so I deactivated my account.
Some people (my sister for example) like that stuff, think it's funny and cute shrug
I HATE that myspace is getting similar applications, means soon I will have to delete my account there too mad

i like it.

i like it better than myspace, by far.

why? i dunno.

less russian prostitute spam?

space fight and mousehunt?

the page design doesn't look like the work of smurfs on acid?

i see less hacking of people's accounts on facebook?

it has features that encourages me to interact with people more than i did on myspace?

not that i think facebook is perfect. there's plenty about it that's annoying, but any huge social networking site is going to have its fair share of pet peeves for anyone, i guess. but i think it's a lot more user friendly, easier on the eye, and more encouraging of interaction than myspace.

that's all i got. shrug

shrug I'm really not that sure.

But yet I still waste a lot of time on it.

I do however appreciate the networking nod we get a lot of our advertising out for art shows via Facebook... many of our courses often create student study groups or course groups on facebook should in case the application they have running on their server happens to crash (like ours always does rolleyes fuck webct! mad )
i've met many new people on it, but in a much more honest way than myspace, because of it's set up... as mentioned it started out as a networking system for college and university students (those were the days.. sigh ) and you required a full name, college/university email address, etc... and that stayed with facebook, although now you do see a ton of people who have their nicknames as a middle name (take for instance, Tyrell 'Smooth' Muir, an actual person - search him! lol i have no idea who he is, he was just apart of an interest group i'm in neutral ) ... you can't pimp it (that i know of) so everything is relatively the same, (safe the numerous shitty apps they seem to pump out daily) so it's easy to navigate everyone's page..

i also appreciate it's privacy settings biggrin
although i have nothing to really hide, i have a right to my privacy, and i take full advantage of it.... biggrin biggrin

so yeah...
...the little artist that could...
[...i think i can, i think i can, i think i can...]

I already know all that, though, as well as their social security numbers, credit card numbers, bank account balances... I don't need a social network to help me with that. Why is this so popular?????

i'm not on any social networks lurking

I get at least as many messages by men who want to talk to me in chat as I get obscure friends requests from non-existing women shrug.

Just today one of my myspace friends asked me to marry him giggle. But we were chatting and he's a nice guy and he was joking. And he's a singer from the US, so it's all good lol.

I never miss an event thanks to Facebook. And I always know who's planning on going.

I love that site for that reason alone.

I agree with all that, plus the fact that I could never find anyone on myspace. shrug

There are also a lot of people I know from local theatre on facebook.
We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Natisse

the website itself? it has a few things going for it, sure... I much MUCH prefer MySpace though as a site. the only reason I'm still on Facebook is because so many people I know have made the 'move' and hardly or don't log onto Myspace any more. I cut back my friends list on MySpace to those who either are only on MySpace or I can't bear to delete and I've got like 20 friends lol. I will probably end up deleting it very soon. It sucks because it's a much better site
