Hmmm...I have mixed feelings about this collection. But I can't really complain because I have some real crap on my shelves...for example I'd pick on Ice for have Freud on there, but I have Kant on my shelf and Kant is an asshole...we're all exposed to a lot stuff and it isn't necessarily a reflection on us!

Interesting post, Ice! smile

As far as Freud goes, you should at least read these two books:

"Civilization and its Discontents"
"The Future of and Illusion"

Those two are absolutely brilliant works that MUST be read.

I've never taken Freud seriously...he's too early in his field to be of any use?! But you if you insist, then I will make a mental note.

These are not psychology books...

"The Future of an Illusion" is Freud's view of the future of religion in society and is quite wonderful.

"Civilization and its Discontents" is about mankind's struggle for freedom and society's demands for conformity.

It is lucky that a lot of my books are in storage... some people would have seen my copy of "Mein Kampf" and accused me of being a Nazi and a racist!

With so many books, it's no wonder you're slow to change your mind--each book expands the width of certain neurons such that they tend to exlude others! (noting the library's emphasis on neural science)

My degrees are in Applied Cognition and Neuroscience and Neurobiology... my application was accepted for the Doctoral program but I don't have time to attend school at this point... it makes me very, very, very, very sad.

If anyone wants to give me enough money to live on so that I can get my PhD, I would really, really appreciate it!!!

I have been working for a large telecom company for the last 6 years... I am in the IT department... I would prefer doing many other things but research positions didn't pay anything, lab work pays nothing too... sad

The closest that I have ever come to religion is Buddhism... I have always had an affinity for the ideas of Eastern philosophy. I prefer arguing about christianity and things of that nature because it is much more fun, but I tried to be a Buddhist for a while there... I like THINGS too much to do it properly though.

EDIT: Oh, I forgot to mention... I really got into Eastern philosophy through my studies in the martial arts.

COOL!!!

I look forward to checking it out... this could be a cool deal if we can get some people to post their libraries...

It is cool to see what people are interested in and what they study... at least it is to me.
