how on earth!

I went to get his last batch of vaccines last week, and they had no record of him being there since our 6 week postnatal check-up. I've brought him to see our doctor (who delivered him) heaps of times when his brothers have had appointments, but he has never had anti-biotics or any kind of prescriptions.

Wow!!! Your son must have a very strong immune system. That might change when he gets to grade school

...sort of off topic, but yesterday a lady told me in church that she breastfed her daughter until aged 3 (and some months). Was I wrong for feeling that I needed to surpress the desire to ask her what for ? . I was really trying my best not to judge, but isn't there a kind of standard cut off for this even though medical experts agree breast milk is crucial to a child's immune system being strong? I mean, if a kid is big enough to do baby karate classes, isn't it the appropriate time to wean them off the teat by then?

I always think if you can breastfeed it's the best way, but my ex sister-in-law breastfed both of her kids for a year and they were constantly sick. They had strep throat so much they had their tonsils out. Ear infections, flu.

That's got to be a fluke.....breastfeeding is the healthiest way I believe and it kept all of my kids away from illness their first few years....

I could only breastfeed till 4 months and then my milk supply dwindled after going back to work. My child had several sinus and ear infections through the years. No tubes those are nasty with all that ear wax coming out of their ears. I guess it just depends what type of enviroment your child is exposed to. I bring sanitizer with me everywhere!!

I heard that in Germany? I think it was Germany....Any way I was told that the women who have children are taken care of financially for up to 3 years to stay home and raise their kids! Why is it that our country only gives us 6-12 weeks with only 6 weeks partially paid? Some states don't give you ANY percentage of your pay while on maternity leave. I would have loved to stay home to care for my child so I could breastfeed for a year. It made me sad everyday that I had to rely on a daycare to raise my child while I was at work.

In sweden it's 16 months paid (by government) maternity/paternity leave (75% of your usual pay for first 12 months, then flat rate after that).
Germany has 14 weeks 100% full pay maternity leave (also government) but they may have a similar situation as here, where the Family Assistance Office pays the one with no income a kind of allowance to take the pressure off the family.

it does suck that in the good ol USofA it's not even a "maternaty" leave it's actually paid under short term disability. Sad really that's how it's viewed.

The fact of the matter is that my taxes here in Germany are high as hell, but I don't mind because the level of services you receive are great, especially in support of families.

There are incentives in place for families that provide for 2 year paid work leave for mom, or school-work leave for dad with 60% percent of his pay if mom will work for 2-3 days per week and he works toward an advanced educational degree. The other option is for mom to work straight away and get free child care if dad cannot or does not want to take a break in his career... The idea is to support a cohesive and nurturing family structure while mom and dad can still be productive contributors to society. I don't mind paying for this at all. I am surrounded by loving families with well adjusted children, so it works for me...I'll be damned happy when it's my turn...

See, now that's what I'm talkin bout! I wouldn't mind paying extra taxes for that. Family has always been priority #1 for me! My husband and I had to work full time and I went to night school to help bring in more money to our household. He paid most of the bills because daycare claimed 3/4 of my paycheck. I was so exhausted that I was sick at least once a month and I had a hard time keeping up with my child's energy. I had moments where I would just break down crying Tired of the struggle.....Ready to move on up!!
