I can see my kneecap! So I was out walking my dog, and my clumsy ass tripped on the sidewalk curb. It hurt, but I figured it was no big deal so I carried on with the walk. So I get home and notice my jeans ripped a little and there's a bit of blood spotting around the tear. I take off my jeans (they're too tight to roll up) to inspect my leg, and almost faint at what I saw. Yellow-white. I look closer, hoping it's tendon. No. Definitely not. Bone. I've cleaned it off as best I could, and dug as much dirt and cotton fiber as I could out of it, but I don't have dressing of any kind. I've already put some Polysporin on it and taken some extra strength Tylenol. What should I do? "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

ASAP to see what he/she recommends. You don't want to get an infection. Those things can be really nasty. OK...did you actually touch it? I wouldn't think one would have fat tissue on their kneecap, but I suppose it's possible. I say that because fat tissue is yellowish. Ask your mom and see a dr!

I thought it might have been fat, since most people do have a thin layer of it on their knees. So (with clean hands, of course) I touched it to see. I don't think ER is necessary, but I'm off to the clinic now to get it looked at. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

yellow-white? every time i've seen that in a cut on me or
my kids, it meant stitches. the yellow-white is a layer of fatty tissue it usually means you'll need something more than a band-aid to keep it together 'why y'all trying to say goodbye? I didn't go anywhere, I'm right here, im all around you,always..'

My nephew did that when he was younger,he as playing on his slide out front, and I guess a brick was left on the lawn, well his knee hit the brick, and slit his knee open,my sister came running in the houe with him,and the first thing I said was "you need to get him to the hospital!". He had to have I believe 12 stitches, but he did bleed just a little, there was alot.

Well, I was right. It really was my kneecap showing through. I'd hoped it was tendon or fat, but no such luck.
Since the tissue had been scraped off when I fell, there was no way to stitch what was left back together. So the nurse just cleaned off what dirt I wasn't able to get, and bandaged it up with some of that non-stick gauze. I've got some painkillers, so that should help. Luckily the wound isn't actually all that big -just about the size of a dime -so it shouldn't take a long time to heal. But, still. I've never seen my own bones before. Ew. thank you for NOT posting a photo
a friend of mine took photos during her elbow operation but when the master stabbed his own thigh with a stanley knife, he asked me to have a good look to see how deep it went. Luckily I turned out NOT to be so squeamish looking at his wound, only my own.
