Wet your roofs down. Be safe.
Over the past few weeks some "adam henrys" have been setting fires in a canyon at one of the 'hood high schools. The fire department has been out in megaforce in the 'hood like I've never seen in my lifetime squelching that mess, I'm impressed.

Over at a Disney board I frequent, they posted a photo of Disneyland with a backdrop of the acrid smoke from the wildfires.

It's been a crazy ass 4 days here since the fire started. I just want to say that as a person who lost their home in a fire 18 years ago, it really does not matter if you are poor or rich to start out with, losing your home is very emotional and heart wrenching. I understand that when people have money, it helps put their life back together faster. But the pain and loss of your past, is just as strong. I have spent 4 days with 2 sets of friends who lost their homes...and yesterday, our family went to our local red cross shelter to take some snacks and treats, the kids had made. Thank the good lord that no one was killed, one elderly man died while being evacuated, but it was not for certain that that is why he died. This is the 3rd major fire in our area, in just over 1 year.

Yeah, according to the press, some college kids had been partying at an empty home. Apparently this home has been used many times for random get togethers by kids blowing off steam.
In this case, they started a bonfire and when the party was over poured water over the fire. Convinced that the fire was out they all left. Over a twelve hour period the fire remained "live", smouldering. When the winds hit it, it flared up... and the rest is history. An annonymous phone call led police and fire investigators to the starting point, but I don't know if they actually know who the culprits are. This is all very sad... |

Thursday night was soooo windy, I remember it well. That's all it takes to re-ignite a fire. 210 homes were lost because of these students bonfire.
