Luc Besson's Atlantis... (okay, and some Le Grand Bleu) for Moonsongs

This is a bit of a weird thread, I suppose. It started out as an orgnote about ONE movie to Moonsongs , but I kept adding so much stuff, it became bigger than that. And, as the subjects of this thread (the imagery and music of two movies) is so close to my heart and I think that more than one person should see the two movies and get the two soundtracks, I thought I'd turn this one into a thread.

So, this one is for Moonsongs, as I know this is a movie she can tap into. But I know it will appeal to many of you. Anyone that feels the need to know anything about me, has to understand that these two movies, esp the first I am going to tell you about, carry a part of the essence of my soul, somehow. I know that words will not do the movies any justice, but I hope I will make some of you curious enough to want to check these out.

I was introduced to Luc Besson via his 1988 movie 'Le Grand Bleu', a beautiful movie, even though Rosanne Arquette plays in it.

It has unbelievable beautiful underwater sequences, a great story of rivalry, an immensely attractive actor (I was in love with Jean-Marc Barr for YEARS), beautiful music by Eric Serra and my first introduction to Jean Reno, an actor I love.

The story has been interchanging first place in my list of best movies ever, even though it's flawed, but it's final scenes to me were heart-wrenching and yet totally acceptable.

The movie and it's music, an integral part of the scenes, were together with Lovesexy what ruled 1988 for me, musically and visually. They gave me an all time high, again, musically, that I haven't surpassed often since.

Anyways. That's Le Grand Bleu. This is about Atlantis. As I am writing a story that involves diving, and I had to explain to some people what certain things would look like in this story, I used clips from Luc Besson's movie Atlantis to illustrate.

Atlantis to me always was the follow-up of Le Grand Bleu, in many ways. But I would love you to take a view at a scene from the movie, set in two Youtube clips. They show what I am trying to tell you about; something that is so beautiful it's magnificent.

The music by Eric Serra is SUCH a big part of the experience, you need to check it out! The star of this movie is the ocean and it's inhabitants; there are no actors in this movie, it's a trip!

So, while typing this, I realised that first, you have to see Le Grand Bleu, which is out there in some horrible dubbed version. Rosanna Arquette is no good in it, but just look through that and focus on the relationship of the two male leads; rivalry and a weird, tough kind of love.

And then zoom in on Jean-Marc Barr's love for the ocean. Like I said, it's part one of Atlantis in some ways, and Jean-Marc Barr's character is in a place I know very well, so I drank the entire movie up back in the day. It's still home in others.

I heart Le Grand Bleu. I first saw it when I was living in Cannes. Luc Besson drew a picture of a dolphin in his square outside the Palais du Festivals where they hold the Cannes Film Festival. (I got my photo taken by it. redface) Yeah, Rosanna Arquette is yawn but Jean-Marc Barr is drool and the cinematography is beautiful. Netflix just sent me the director's cut (2 hours, 48 minutes), but they've dubbed it in English. pout I want French with English subtitles!
