i guess i just don't think about it until it's time to put on my pyjamas or unless my shoes are hurting my feet when i get home. otherwise, i take off my shoes when i get home when i get around to taking them off. i'm pretty cautious about where i step, so i rarely have any poo or any other form of street slime on my shoes. i don't see the big whoop.

Sometimes, sometimes not. I don't make my guests take off their shoes.
But some of them do anyway. I like to put my slippers on as soon as I get home.

i wear shoes at all times, except in bed (and even then sometimes).
home is where you feel comfortable, and if i like wearing shoes, then i'm going to do it there. i really hate going to people's houses where they're all prissy about shit. you eat, fuck and shit there. though not on the carpet (at least 2 out of the 3, i hope) let's not pretend like this is some museum exhibit. ps: there's nothing more disgusting than stepping in a puddle of some kid of moisture (any kind) in a sock. yuck.

I have timber floors but I still hate it when people have their shoes on ...(but more so when the house has just been cleaned )
My dad never takes them off ...and he would never think to even check if they had dirt on them....and thats even if it was carpet!

my best friends are Hindu, and they don't wear shoes in their house, you have to leave them at the door before entering. i like it, so we do that at our place too, soon as we come home, we take the shoes off.

I've always been a "no shoes in the house" kind of person. What I've appreciated from being in Hamburg and Tokyo is that it's very normal in those cultures to have the same policy...the idea is to keep from tracking urban yucky stuff into the house as well as to preserve your floors. In Germany there really is an entire shoe industry based around house slippers...winter house slippers go as high as 100 Euro. I only wear the 4.95 ones, though . However I do provide guest slippers for visitors, and easy wash cotton-y ones for larger groups of friends visiting my flat. I always make sure they're nice and Downy fresh, too

If I step on something wet while wearing socks, I have to take the socks off immediately I just can't stand the feeling! But it only happens if the bathmats are wet or if I dropped a piece of ice in the kitchen
