shrug it differentiates those who are mothers from those who are not

and why not, in london its used for all older attractive women as you cant possibly know someones personal circumstance.

do all women want to be classed as the same? do we all want to be part of a mass?

women are diverse and should be recognised as such, this is true feminism.

At one time not so long ago men simply saw women as all the same, we were classed together as a species alien to them. Now men are starting to revel in the knowledge that women are diverse creatures and therefore are interesting to them.

I would be more upset beng described as a wag than a milf.

A wag is someone who has subscribed themselves to be seen as one of the popular masses, a mindless bimbo. young girls seem to aspire to become wags rather than independent women.

As long as mothers are discriminated against in the work force, stay at home mums not taken seriously as contributing members of society, as long as pushing a pram or leading a troupe of kids makes one invisible, as long as "mum" is taken for granted, then I probably will feel uncomfortable with the term.

I've never heard of a wag, but it sounds insulting, and milf may be the least worst of the 2.

Do we have a differentiating term for sexy pre-pubescent girls or sexy post menopausal women? Not PC ones anyway lol All "sexy" women, should theoretically be those in their child-bearing years, sexy being all the signs a woman is fertile, right? A mother is one who has already borne a child, thus taking her off the market for other males, she should not BE sexy to them any more lol

Fortunately it's not really like that tease women can be sexy well beyond menopause these days, sexy now being more a state of mind and attitude than merely physical attributes, and sexy if she is or isn't a mother.
(I appreciate diversity, but labelling a sub-section kind of is still just lumping us in together lol )

I DON'T think Mrs Robinson was attractive because she was a MOTHER, she was worldly, exciting and exotic, because she was of a whole other generation. The fact she was a mother did, however, make it controversial and taboo.

I have many complicated, conflicted feelings about this that I am not sure I can explain, but I'm trying! nuts

I understand your view and i think this is something all us women have to think about as being a modern woman is complex. The push and pull of feminism is also complex.

WAG was coined in the UK as meaning 'Wives And Girlfriends' from the footballers wives and girlfriends which is a big thing here. It really started with Posh and david beckham and then the other girls who became famous for their liaisons with footballers. It wasnt started as an insulting thing and therefore isnt really seen as such but in my mind its not something to aspire to. My generation where encouraged to stand up and be counted amongst the male workforce but that doesnt mean you have to lose your sexuality or femininity.

Its now used in magazines on telly as something girls can aspire to - to be a WAG. theres even WAG bingo/lottery and such like - meaning you could win loads of dosh and have that life style (i dont think they mean be a gold digger and sell your story to the tabloids lol)

MILF isnt considered PC here as i said it came from the porn industry but it is something young people say alot amongst themsleves.

Your reference to Mrs Robinson is exactly what I was trying to get at. its the fact that a mother is possibly unattainable is what makes them attractive and exciting. BUt then Im not a guy or gay so what do i know? I just saying it as I understand it.

it would be interesting to hear some guys discuss this too.

nod

yeah I don't think being a wife or girlfriend is exactly something to ASPIRE to
in place of success on one's own merit neutral

Maybe MILF isn't exactly PC, but I think men say it with the intention for it to be flattering lol but it STILL feels like one of those backhanded compliments.

Mother is a complicated person who has a pretty bad rep in history, literature and the media over the ages. (Remember autistic children were supposedly caused by refrigerator mothers? confused ) SOOOOO much is heaped on mothers, I feel being one is fraught with judgement and criticism, so to even bring it up for me as a defining term, rather than it being simply a role I am fulfilling at this time of my life, and then to couple it with sexual objectification as well dead

thats a shame you feel that way, I never saw it like that. I always thought mothers were revered in literature and by religions. surely theres no harm in it being just one of many defining terms, after all we are multi-faceted creatures and it is nice to be recognised for one of those facets. in the 50s women were merely seen as home makers and child breaders they would never have been referred to as milf. The wife became the replacement mother to man, but maybe that is my warped version of what it was actually like back then.

the 60s saw the emancipation of women as sexual beings who were in charge of that. the 80s saw women take on more male roles but at the expnse of their feminine values they had to dress more male and devoid themselves of all other facets in order to appear on one plane - business like in order to compete with men.

I think the term milf merely shows the changing attitude of men in that they recognise women as sexual beings as well as fulfilling more traditional nuturing roles, it actually indicates a recognition even if subliminal that men can now accept at least two female facets co-exist - the mother who is also sexually attractive. It indicates that men are looking at older women in a new way. Jerry hall once said that mick likes her to be a mother in the kitchen but a whore in the bedroom. That double standard still exisits in some part but the idea that a woman can successfully be both entities at the same time is a new idea that men are now embracing. what also comes out of this term is that mens old views that they prefer young women is also changing. That stereoptype of an 18 year old who owns a pub next to a golf cousre (old joke) as being the optimum dream mate is going. These stereotypes still exist in porn but even that industry is beginning to recognise peoples changing perceptions, hence the milf.

It is a great thing to be a mother, it does define you in that it is the greatest power on earth. - to give life. men can take it but they cannot give birth to it. that task is left to the female of the species and not all of them can be one.

never think of yourself as 'just a mother' it is the greatest and hardest job of them all. To reduce it to simply being one role you fulfill is to subscribe to the male agenda of reducing its percieved importance.

Many women think that they must be seen as a business -woman etc despite also being a mother. In fact they should be seen as woman who happens to have a career while being a mother as the primary job and if she can be considered a milf too and make guys mouths drop - why not?
