Exactly, I highly doubt Michelle was standing up there thinking "Gee, I wonder if my dress is a hit or miss?"

Seriously. rolleyes

thats why its important.

design, materials, colors, smells are always and forever engrained into moments in time.

its what evokes feelings from the past in the present.

Almost forty years later, they're still talking about Jackie O's wardrobe.

please, she picked it for that occasion, it was definitely part of her thoughts.
i would say from what the entire family was wearing it was very much on her thoughts.
Plus they are from Chicago, we are into these sorts things. Its part of the life style. Just like being conscious of what one eats.

It's nice to see a trendy, chic woman in the white house.

Enough of the stodgy suits!

I think Michelle has a lot of style, but when she walked out in that dress, I just gasped omg!

Here's the thing:
The dress wasn't right for Michelle's body type. On the above model, it works; she has no hips.
Michelle- like me- has hips, so the black criss-cross in the front opened into an inverted "V" that exaggerated that feature and made her look wider than she really is on that field of red. As a result, I pictured the Heinz ketchup bottle.
Along the same lines, the short cardigan cut her off. It was probably pretty chilly out there, so she needed a long black cardigan the same length as the dress that created a straight line, thus a slimming effect.

The model's shoes are too chunky, and I don't remember seeing Michelle's. A simple black peep-toe would have been appropriate for that occasion.

Just my twocents wink

I absolutely agree. nod

So, this morning my beloved 68 year old aunt called me and made me promise to post on here that
1. She hated the dress
2. Somebody needs to teach Michelle how to dress
3. It was atrocious to dress the younger daughter in black cuz black is for funerals
4. Michelle walks like a maliante (think Mary J Blige in the Real Love video) and needs to learn how to walk gracefully

Sheeeeesh, she's so judgmental. . . guess I got it honest. neutral

lol

I told her that I thought she looked chic and that although some people didn't like the dress I'm starting to think some of the disdain may be a generational thing. I bet Jackie Kennedy was criticized by the old guard for being so modern when she did her thing. I bet they had a lot to say cuz she showed her bare arms in a lot of her sheath dresses. It was kind of scandalous for Jackie to use designer Oleg Cassini and other European designers to design most of her wardrobe. Some things never change. shrug

I didn't like it. It made her look wider than she is. I did love the red and black color scheme, though and how the fmaily was coordinated.
I do like how she dresses most of the time. she's not boring or afraid to wear color or wear emasculating pants suits.
