Why ALL of them? Are they all next door to Best Buy stores like they are here?

155 Circuit City stores are closing nationwide. I work for Circuit City and it was a pretty sad day for the company with all the layoffs. Last Sunday some stores had a holiday kickoff meeting (thank goodness mine did) while others had their last meeting ever. It's not looking too good. Our last hope is this holiday season...
More details here: http://newsroom.circuitci...eID=344747 Kinda strange, kinda awesome.

I haven't been to a Circuit City in ages. They closed a ton of them here in Chicago. You literally have to drive 40 or 50 minutes out to find one. Even then, the stuff they have is auto-wiped by Best Buy. D= Best Buy tries to outshine all the electronic providers in this area.
Just like the Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart shuts everything down...

Just like the Wal-Mart. Wal-Mart shuts everything down... Actually, I think it has a lot less with Best Buy trying to be like Walmart and more about some of the incredibly boneheaded decisions made by the former CEO of the company. Circuit City was struggling to get by with Best Buy taking market share, but a couple of years ago the former CEO decided in a cost-cutting move to fire all of his best and most experienced commissioned salespeople and replace them with hourly workers. This obviously didn't go well with the workers or their customers, and their sales declined even further. I'm just surprised that Circuit City hasn't already gone out of business. I think that a whole slew of once blue-chip institutions will bite the dust in the next few years if the economy continues to decline into potentially Great Depression territory. My guess is that Sears and Kmart will disappear at some point and so will a lot of mall store chains as well.

That would suck if Sears and KMart were next. Hell, it's gonna suck all around and we'll all be on amazon.com and overstock.com trying to get a deal. But I know what you mean about the hourly worker deal. It's REALLY hard to find someone there who knows their stuff. Usually when my dad and I went, we'd research ourselves before we purchased. Every now and then, we'd ask. And sometimes, we'd get a look like...."o_o" followed by "Hold on, let me get..." *sigh* Even though I must admit that they had affordable bargains when they were closing. It was sad, actually. They had lots of old school games that were hard to find.

that's too bad.
i'm hoping that the chain remains in existence for a few more years, because i'm about to buy a new ipod, and i want to buy their warranty. i'll be damned if i'm going to best buy to buy anything more than movies or cd's with their shitty customer service.
