Right now I'm partway through an Associate of Arts diploma, then later I'm seriously considering upgrading to a Bachelor's or Master's degree. It's all a matter of sorting out what I'd like to major in.

As for classes, this semester I've got:

English -focusing on essay writing and style
Philosophy
Anthroplogy: Intro to Myth & Folklore
Racism and Ethnic Relations in Canada

What are you doing?

I'm finishing up my pre reqs and about to start nursing school. I work nights at a hospital.

Cool. My mom's a nurse. thumbs up!

Yep. Once I finish that I want to work for a year or two to get some experience and then go and get my Master's along with my Nurse Practitioner cert. There is a school here that you can do both at the same time. The money difference is insane and I'd like to work in an office. More stable hours would be best for me with my two sons. I'm single so I won't have someone to help out if I wanted to work nights. I do right now, but that won't be permanent.

Sounds like a good plan. I hope it works out for you. smile

sometimes I think it would be fun to go back to school, escape the drudgery, but I hated school first time around disbelief I would probably hate it all over again!

I hated the feeling of "oh I've been in class all day, yet I have homework this evening and weekend as well".

I was at the mall yesterday after work and some dude was on his phone in the food court saying "well I better go, I have homework to do", and was hauling his binders with him.

I just don't miss that. I was a hard-working student.

^^^

I do enjoy school, but I must admit it's harder this time around. Not because of the learning, but because I have so much to manage on top of school. It's a juggling act for sure. I want to make sure I'm there as a mother for my kids, I have to work, and I have to find time to do homework and study.

I just missed an entire week of classes because my kids got sick and I had to take care of them, then I got sick. So, I have a ton of reading and work to make up.

I am really motivated though. I just got out of a marriage and I need to be able to support myself and my kids, so when things get annoying I think of them and it keeps me going.

I will say that if I could get a really good paying job without going to school I would take it. I love school, but it takes up a lot of time.

I hate know-it-all's. Period!

Any body sitting in class acting like he/she is the friggin professor needs to really shut up, listen and learn something...If you were that smart you'd be graduated already! hmph!
If you will, so will I

I love them. I do.
I get along great with older students, hearing about their experience whether it be educationally related or otherwise.
They're a great part of the classroom experience.

BUT, what I don't like, is the older women who come into University as a mature student and try to teach the classes themselves - especially because they've had said experience.

I'm in lecture right now, and this woman - who've i've been friends with for a few years now - is trying to tell everyone how to feel about a certain piece because SHE experienced it back then, and SHE knows how it all went.

That just doesn't jive well with me.

She's a mother. And she's beginning to mother everyone that gets close to her.
The way she speaks to people is very forceful - and even rude. And she's been really imposing on others lately.

I'm not asking for advice. This is a common sense situation and I know when I get the chance to address the situation, I will.

I'm just mad. And the org probs has room for yet another venting thread.
I really don't care if this goes anywhere.

And NOOOO I'm not bashing mature students. I hope all of you took the chance to READ what I wrote first off. So before you come and post telling me off for my own opinions, read it over a few.

There is always one know it all Sammi!!! It's the same in my class of FOUR students!!!!! It irritated me so much at first but now it makes me laugh. Whatever!

Speaking of know-it-alls.

I let one of the students have it just this week.

He has been trying to upstage me from the beginning of this course,,,,and I don't even mind competition BUT think twice before you do something slick that might get you ending up showing your ass. And its worse for him too because he couldn't get along with most of the professors which is the reason why he trys to push himself more than anybody.

Anyway, I asked this professor a ?uestion and this fool interrupted the prof before he even opened his mouth to ANSWER me eek

I stopped him right then & there "Untill you're out there in front of that blackboard getting paid for this lecture, or keep your big mouth shut and let the man earn his money, please". The professor kept himself from laughing @ the whole situation lol

I saw the ass pain today, and he didn't even look my way through out the WHOLE lecture razz

nod

There's a dude like that in my Philosophy class. He's one of those types that likes to announce how smart and deep they are. Granted, he does actually know what he's talking about -but I paid good money to hear the professor talk, not him. And he has got the loudest voice ever. It's like no one ever explained to him about indoor voice. disbelief
