I am a mature student now...and I feel it's just best and sit back. I have to admit the younger crowd scares me. lol

Really? I know sometimes we feel intimidated by mature students... I definitely do. And befriending them can be hard sometimes...
But especially with art and the classes i'm taking, it becomes a lot easier to talk to everyone, regardless of where they're on in their life path...

it was just today wasn't a good day for either of us
i had a major presentation and she had her own shit to deal with shrug

gosh, i'm wondering if hokie is actually not fond of me after all this lol

I went back to school at 34 and I found it really hard to relate to the young students in my classes (Sociology, US Government, and World Affairs)...I went to a school in upstate NY, so I guess the political leanings lent much to their opinions...but they were borderline obnoxious...I held back as long as I could (and if you knew me personally, you'd understand the little giggle I just supressed as I typed that....lol) but I ended up "lecturing" them from my experience soapbox...

...after that, we got along greatly!!

I'm a "mature" student. mad

I can see how that would be annoying. I am not a mom when I go to class. I'm just a student like everyone else.

But, the thing that is so annoying are the younger students that obviously are rude and don't give a crap about the class. I had to work hard to pay for my education. They can at least stop talking throughout the whole class so I can listen to my professor peacefully. rolleyes

I feel like slapping those stupid kids and telling them that if they would shut up and listen to the teacher maybe you'd get a better grade on your test. These are kids that whined when we got our first anatomy test back and they all failed. hah!

I ruined their chances of getting a curve. I was the only one to get an "A".

mr.green

Didn't you say you just started your first real job?

Yes, I did. And I worked to pay so that I could go to school this semester.

Just so everyone knows. I'm not bashing all younger students. I am actually pals with a girl who is much younger than me and working to pay her way through school. I know not everyone had their mom and dad pay for school.

I am just speaking from my experience that I do see a fair number of the younger kids seeming not to care about school and even bragging about their mom and dad paying etc.

THOSE kids bug me. Not all of them do. Hell, I used to be one of the kids that I can't stand. lol When I went to college the first time around I took it for granted. My parents paid my way and I didn't have to work. I didn't appreciate the gift they gave me.

Now that I'm "mature" giggle and I'm paying my own way I'm more appreciative of what a gift that was back then.

So to all people, young or mature, who pay for school and work hard good for you. smile And for the rest of you....

Dude, seriously...if someone has the right to shit on old fart students you have every right to shit on young obnoxious students without getting crapped on.

It's all about personal experience, right?

School sucks anyway.

Says you. These days, I think school is awesome. I actually find myself excited to go to class -which is a MAJOR change from my lazy-ass high school self, where I'd maybe only make it to class 2 days a week. lol

Right now I'm partway through an Associate of Arts diploma, then later I'm seriously considering upgrading to a Bachelor's or Master's degree. It's all a matter of sorting out what I'd like to major in.

As for classes, this semester I've got:

English -focusing on essay writing and style
Philosophy
Anthroplogy: Intro to Myth & Folklore
Racism and Ethnic Relations in Canada

What are you doing?

It's an adventure, I'll tell you that.

The worst are the middle aged housewives coming back to work after years of running a hosuehold and being the boss there. Then no matter how fresh they are in the paid workforce or how much experience I, as the person assigned to train them, have they want to take charge and do things their way. It's like dealing with a very large and stubborn toddler.

Yeah. Us middle aged housewives sure are lame.

Psht. talk to the hand You know what I meant. After someone's been used to running things in their own home for 20 years, a lot aren't going to be all that good at taking orders from some young whippersnapper young enough to be their kid. Some seem to develop an inability to read the word "supervisor" on a nametag. shrug
