Father WRESTLES PIT BULL to SAVE Daughter

FROM: http://www.kptv.com/news/...etail.html

HAPPY VALLEY, Ore. -- A man rescued his daughter from an attack by a 90-pound pit bull that continued to attack, biting the man in several places Wednesday afternoon, police said.

Steven M. Hehr, 31, of Gladstone, and his daughter, Jayda Kempas, 7, were recovering Thursday as she waited to go into surgery for her injuries after the vicious attack that left them both injured and the dog dead, Detective Jim Strovink said.

Hehr was inside a home on Southeast 172nd Street in Happy Valley when he heard Jayda's screams outside, Strovink said.

The staff sergeant with the Oregon National Guard immediately ran outside to find the 90-pound dog with its jaws latched onto his daughter's leg as it attempted to pull her off the tire swing on which she'd been playing, according to the sheriff's office.

That reminds me of something that happened here in Houston not too long ago.

Two boys were walking down a street in the Third Ward when a pit bull broke out of its yard and jumped on one of the boys. The other boy grabbed a piece of wood and stabbed the dog to death before it could kill his friend.

There was a reporter from the Houston Chronicle across the street, and he ran over to get the story. He got a statement from the little hero, and began writing "Houston Texans Fan Saves Friend's Life" but the boy said he was not a fa of the Houston Texans.

So the reporter scratched that out and wrote "Dallas Cowboys Fan Saves Friend's Life" but again the boy protested, saying he didn't like the Dallas Cowboys, either. The reporter asked him if he had a favorite football team, and the boy said he was a Tennessee Titans fan.

So the reporter began his story with "Redneck Bastard Kills Family Pet".

Any advice on what to do when someone gets attacked by a pitbull ?
You seem to know quite a lot and I really would like to hear some professional advice just in case I need to protect someone one day.
I guess pepper spray is not an option when it comes to pitbulls.
What should someone do first? Grab the dog by its neck ? Hit the nose ?

I owned a pittbull, Mecca, when she had two pups, we gave them away when they became 4 months old. Mecca changed after that, she started whining a lot and would pace the area, she stopped wagging her tail when she saw us. One day my mom went to feed her, and Mecca looked like she was going to attack at my mom, she cornered my mom, Rajah, our other pitt (dominant female) immediately got in her way and checked Mecca. The very next day, Mecca was put to sleep. I hate to think of what could of happened had he let her live.

Rajah birthed puppies twice and she was always sweet and loving towards kids even while pregnant. She remained that way even while sick and riddled with tumors before her untimely death. Each dog is different, and every owner knows when they have a potentially vicious dog. My son was attacked by a Dalmation, I hate those dogs. That dog lunged and snapped at my son without a hint of warning. That Dalmation almost got my son's face, I snatched him away in time, but he did manage rip my son's jeans. My son was only 3 and that dog was about 80+ pounds. I still believe breed of dog doesn't matter, any dog can be loving or dangerous.

So sad that that little girl was hurt rose that dad should have killed that dog before that. Some pitts are awesome family pets, some just need to be put down.

Punch hard on the ribcage, very hard to knock the wind out of them, pitts also have very weak necks, I personally would stab and try to kill a pitt by stabbing the throat. I sounds harsh, but it will be put to death anyways or attack again.

They don't feel pain like most animals..but their ears are very sensitive and are an easy target to get them to release.... my dog hates it ....
