Lammastide's vampire fang pet peeve

So... I like vamp-related stuff, and it's fun to see how different writers/producers approach the mythology in different ways. But it really burns my cookies when some of the creative liberties taken violate inconsequential things for no good reason. pissed Take fangs for instance...

The morphology of the human mouth is as follows:

So unless vampirism altogether changes -- rather than merely tweaks the mechanics and appearance of -- anatomy, fangs should exist as slightly over-elongated canines. They should look like this:

NOT this:

And certainly not this:

I am disturbed at the utter disregard for reason around vamp dentistry these days, and I ask all vamp fans to join me in my indignation.

In conclusion, let them return from the dead. Let them fly around and hypnotize folk. Let them change into animals and fog and what-not. But let's not mess with their teeth. That's just wrong. no no no!

Thank you for your time.

I agree with you 100%.

MY pet peeve has to do with vampires crying tears, not blood, like they should.

You are all weird. Vampires are not real, so you can make up about them what you like.

Vampires are frigid, btw. Buffy and Sookie are just being tricked.

I like Anne Rice's take on vampires. Sex to them is all about the exchange of blood and sex organs are useless.

no no no!

Don't make the mistake of assuming what's true in one set of vampire lore is true for everything.

Unless you mean the vamps in the movie version of Interview crying tears instead of blood. That really was stupid. If in the books their eyes leak blood when they're sad, then so should they in the movies?

How did it work in the movie version of Queen of the Damned?

I agree with you on the teeth thing, Lammastide. Anyone who's ever taken a good look at human teeth can see that our canines are already our longest and pointiest.

Here's my vampire pet peeve: The cliche Goth-y image.

Real people who are Goths are neato, but making every single vamp some Goth archetype is silly. Why would everyone turn to wearing black velvet once they're the undead?

I much prefer the Joss Whedon approach to vamps: The undead are pretty much like they were when they were living, just crankier. razz

Although I love Interview, I thought that regular tears were dumb. I don't remember how they dealt with it in Queen. I'll have to check.

I only ever saw Queen once. I hated so much how they bastardized the story that I never bothered to watch it a second time.

really, though, isn't it the other way around? Goths ripped of Vamps, not the other way around....

speaking of, I've read a few things making a case that the publication of Interview was extremely influential in the goth "movement"

You might be right.

But when you think of all the vampire movies, tv shows, and books -what are the vamps wearing? Velvet, leather, lace, and lots and lots of black. Doesn't seem to matter what they were like in life. Wouldn't it stand to reason that only someone who was Goth in life would be Goth in unlife?

That's why, even though she wasn't my favourite character, I was such a fan of Harmony on the Buffy and Angel series. She didn't even come close to the modern Goth vamp cliche. She wore a lot of pink, was bubbly and perky and chipper but kind of stupid, and had a thing for unicorns -just like when she was alive.

nod True. But a younger vamp would have no reason to dress like that unless they already did while alive. Even most of the older ones change their look with the times. And thank God. Can you imagine how silly and unintimidating Spike would look if he was still wearing a late Victorian era suit, floppy hair, and glasses?

You'd think they could come up with a better diagram. This dude's teeth aren't even straight and wtf is up with the finger pulling the cheek to the side to get a better view?

lol Me neither.

Glasses just aren't spooky.

Though I do think he's hot in specs. It's too bad Joss never thought to do the current Billy Idol Spike wearing his glasses. Spike was an educated guy in life -presumably he still reads and so might need reading glasses.

Unless becoming a vamp gives a person 20/20 vision?

It's the best I could find for my level of investment. lol This was actually a diagram to show the formation of an abscess. If you notice, the bottom teeth get kind of yucky toward the back. feeling ill
