KNITTING! (and other high profile materials) who loves to knit!?
it's been one of my goals for a long time, and something i've wanted to learn before i turn 25 (so i still have 3 years) however, for a class this year we're working with "high profile materials" which means, materials not seen as mediums for art making, but are used for it anyway. so like felting, crocheting, basket weaving and knitting i took on the knitting assignment and i'm currently working on a scarf. yeah there are stitches missing but whatever, i love doing it! who else here knits?! ...we should have a knit n' bitch session. es muy facil youtube has some great videos on how to learn! LOVE me some youtube! It's an incredible resource. As gawd is my witness I honestly taught myself how to make "shrimp toast" appetizers from there tonight! It was a recipe I was searching for for YEARS and I finally learned how to make it there, within 20 minutes prep and cook time. Thanks for the reminder that I can look there to brush up on my knitting. I haven't knitted anything other than scarves for years, but it's a really popular and inexpensive hobby where I live, and i would like to try something bigger and adventurous since the holidays are coming. I'd also like to attack quilting in a big way. I think of all the quilts my grandmother made as far back as the 30's which were discarded by family members, and it just makes me heartsick.

I like to knit and crochet. I have to keep my hands busy with something. I am currently making a sweater set for Angie's doll.I also am working on some baby afghans that should be done by Christmas hopefully.
I really love knitted lace and have collected a lot of old patterns. I made a really pretty filet crochet window hanging a couple years ago, I think I'm going to give it another try after the blankets are done. Use a crochet hook to pick up your dropped stitches, works like a charm. "Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind"-Dr Seuss

You know the twisted joke in the quliting thing is that granny didn't do it for heirloom's sake so as being a poor southern wife and mother of 11 children. those quilts were made from scraps of fabric collected from old family clothes, or swatches given to her by the rich white housewives she worked for as a maid in the deep south. Old Girl was just trying to keep her babies warm . I always marveled at her craftsmanship, though. That woman could hand cut and hand sew a dress without a pattern as well as any Italian couturier .My own mother can tailor by hand within minutes, and here I am, 21st century girl and can barely operate a sewing machine Therefore....I think you've just given me something to add to my youtube "learning list"!

just saw this...
brb..... ok i do a little crocheting more than knitting, and a little fancier.i only know how to the barest basic in knitting.... i was eight when i started making barbie clothes for mine and my friends dolls.i've made clothes for myself and others.. alterations, those can be scary!( i did alterations for a wedding, not the brides dress tho..) and design, i suppose, but most of the time i make things without the design or pattern...sometimes it feels like i know how to do so much... 'why y'all trying to say goodbye? I didn't go anywhere, I'm right here, im all around you,always..'
