I avoid going to the doctor because I'm afraid of being yelled at/lectured. I know that's strange and most doctors don't yell at you but i went to one doctor who told me that I had the most horrible infection that she had ever seen and started yelling at me in english and spanish.

She diagnosed me with something rather serious without running any tests and told me that I "was not normal". So after I was done crying, I went to another doctor for a second opinion. He did not yell at me in any language, actually ran some tests, and told me that I was fine. So ever since then I've been a bit scared of going to the doctor.

hug Damn, that doctor sounds like a real nut case. She shouldn't be yelling at you like that. If that would have happened to me, I think I would have walked out on her, then reported her to the proper individual(s). If she yelled at you, I wonder how many other patients she's yelled at? She sounds like she has no "bedside manner" whatsoever. disbelief I'm glad you went and got a second opinion, that was a very good thing to do.

I had a bad experience once with a doctor (this was when I was much younger, and still living with my parents). My mom called the doctor's office and told them what happened, why we were disappointed in the doctor who "treated" me, and said that she was not going to pay the bill. They never called us on it again, which makes me think that this is not the first time that they had received complaints about this doctor. He was a nut case too, and should not even be allowed to practice medicine.

RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

All I can say is thank goodness for the NHS.
The prescriptions are free for OAPs and children and we pay £7.40 for a prescription of any description.

I have to have a mini-op every year (HRT) and it doesnt cost a thing.
If you have heart probs or diabetes its free.
My Dad's cancer and heart operation - all free.

Even though it has its problems thank goodness its there!!

thats excellent. i have private health insurance because our public system is crap.
my daughter needed grommits fitted last year. we waited on the public list for about 6 months with no sign of an appointment to check it out, i decided to go private and she had them fitted in less than a month. a year and a half later and i still haven't received the public appointment to check her out.

i hate the fact that our health system is two tier.

That's terrible l that she has not had an appointment - here they have to have an appointment within 2 weeks or else!!!

When my Father was diagnosed with cancer within 2 weeks of him noticing symptoms - he was in the oeprating theatre within 1 week and Chemo with one week after that!

When he had an heart attack he was operated on within 2 days!

they can move fast enough here when you are diagnosed on the public system, but the delays waiting to get diagnosed does more harm if you have a disease like cancer.

it really annoys me the sysytem we have, and i know i am very lucky to be able to afford to pay privately, i would hate to be left at the mercy of the public system.

far from ideal, but in Europe or Canada, peopleo don´t have to pay
to go to the doctor, if they don´t wish to.

Well we don't have the cost thing to worry about here, but I still find I avoid it cause its far from my new house, and I havent gotten around to changing doctors since I moved yet (6 months ago) I will do it when I have time off! Just laziness!
