I eat low-carb (not militantly, but consistantly)
I don't drink full sugar sodas, fruit juices, etc. Lots of water and Diet Coke
Work out regularly
I wash, scrub, and moisturize my skin daily....spf30 (for Arizona's ever present sun)
I try to keep the stress levels down by working thru the stupidity of others to get what I need done.....lol doesn't ALWAYS work....
I read a lot
He was like a cock who thought the sun had risen to hear him crow.

wait, what? lol

i was eating 12 white castles at one sitting and downing mcdonalds and burger king on a regular basis for the first 18 years of my life. i used to gobble rally Qs like pacman would gobble little yellow dots. lol

then my mom and some friends and i started trying to work in some funkier, healthier foods into our diet - still including the regular fast food crap, mind you - and eventually, by the time i started college, i figured i could chuck the meat for good. i guess the trick for me was deciding, and finding out a way, to make such a change manageable and palatable. it's not for everyone, but i'll say that for myself, it really wasn't a huge sacrifice. these days, when people tell me you have to give up tasty food when you give up meat, i think they've lost their minds.

Da fuk eek disbelief

You win, Anx, you DEF win falloff

The thing is, its not the fact that I love meat so much, its the fact that I'm VERY anti-routine, THATS really my curse. I like a lil' variety in my plate which ain't exactly the case when it comes to vegetarian food since it doesn't leave you with so many options, ya know? lol
[Edited 10/25/08 14:26pm]

see, that's why i say you weren't hanging out with the right vegetarians! lol

seriously, i have lots of variety in my diet, and one comforting lesson i learned early on is that just because i'm a vegetarian, it doesn't mean i always have to eat healthy. there's a lot of yummy junk food out there that doesn't involve meat, and i embrace all of it. lol

There are TONS of options!! lol

The only time you don't have a lot of options is when you only eat at typical american restaurants - like steakhouses and burger joints. Other than that I have a highly varied diet.

It just takes some time to learn what they are.

I try to be balanced.

I let myself do unhealthy stuff, but I also do a lot of healthy stuff, and I try not to stress about either one very much. You see many people who live a long life and aren't strict celibate vegan yogis.

The benefits of enjoying an occasional treat & not stressing so much about it are real. As long as you're not doing the bad stuff to an extreme I think they're okay in small doses.

I don't see why people see unhealthy stuff as treats and healthy as boring. I just don't get that.

I had a banana mash the other day -- (I squashed up a half banana and sprinkled it with 2 tbs of toasted wheat germ. LOL. -- and that was as good to me as banana pudding. Plus, I didn't get the sugar assault.

Things that help and heal you are great to me. Now, of course this is from someone who doesn't see meat as evil. I love meat and very much advocate people eating lean meat. I eat fish, chicken, lean pork and lean beef constantly -- oh and don't forget eggs! Food is fun and glorious and protein is great.

I can't think of too many unhealthy things that I must have. I guess I have a different definition of what "unhealthy" is.

I only consider refined sugar (that includes soft drinks), refined flour, processed foods, fake chemical substitutes, and fried foods to be unhealthy.

In 2001, I just moved from LA to Miami and found out my sister was dying from Leukemia. I was having all kinds of medical problems from the stress. My jamaican doctor, Whittingbotham, gave me a prescription I will never forget.
Dr. "Shy, do you smoke, drink, or do drugs?'
Shy "No but I drink every blue moon."
Dr. "Do you exercise?"
Shy "Yep."
Dr. "Do you have a boyfriend?"
Shy "No. I just moved here."
Dr. "Here take this prescription and make sure you use them. You need to get rid of all that stress."

The doctor wrote me a prescription for a months supply of condoms. It makes me smile every time I go to Walgreen's to pick something up. lol

That wasn't working. I guess he wanted me to get some help since I didn't get it right by myself.

I swear by green tea. Never pre made, only straight from the leaves, brewed right in my kitchen. Actually, I am a champion of tea in general. In my kitchen you can find a full variety of green, black, white, and herbal leaves.

i love green tea and have a huge selection of leaves, herbs and spices that i mix up and brew together. i also juice vegetables but my biggest health tip is plenty of water and inversion therapy, which is basically where one hangs upside down.

i do most of my core work and dead lifts hanging upside down

it reverses the effects of gravity and builds strong lean muscle

* I spike my water with apple cider vinegar daily. It's antibacterial and I haven't had a cold in 2 years, whereas before I would ALWAYS get a sore throat as seasons changed ...at least once or twice year.

* I drink a homemade shake of raw egg yolk, wheat germ, flax oil, bee propolis, milk, and banana each morning for energy(and to keep my hair long and strong).

* I only use WHOLE FOOD vitamins. Anything else is crap.

* I oil pull with sesame oil (this helps pull toxins out of your body and promotes good oral health).

* As I stated above, I take bee propolis extract (no alcohol, no wax). You thought honey was amazing? Well, it is and manuka honey can even kill staph, but bee propolis is the top immune system booster and it's great for teeth, gums, and sore throats. Bees mummify insects in this stuff and keep them for years!
[Edited 10/25/08 13:12pm]

i cannot survive without my active manuka honey nod i use it daily

i love manuka honey. i use propolis as well.

I have to add to this, 'tis the season for bronchial coughs and asthma flare ups... eucalyptus tea leaves boiled w/ echinacea and/or chamomile is a great mix for treating symptoms of an acute attack.

I drink mines unsweetened and hot as possible, for beginners you should sweeten with raw sugar or honey.

Oh and for the mommies with kids in school (even babies). Cold plain black coffee is great for pink eye, a few drops in each eye twice a day (w/ a dropper), but only works when symptoms are onset and not recurring. At that point if child has had pink eye for several days then they need a strong antibiotic from the pediatrician.

*Note... do NOT pour hot coffee in your child's eye. lol
