5 Years of Wicked

Wicked", of one Broadway's most popular musicals honors its upcoming fifth-anniversary with a special re-release of its top-selling cast album. The new fifth anniversary edition includes the original Broadway cast recording of "Wicked" plus a second disc full of bonus songs, including pop stars LeAnn Rimes and Delta Goodrem in a new recording of "For Good."

Also included on the recording is a pop version of "I'm Not That Girl," produced by Brian May of Queen; Idina Menzel's dance mix of her signature song "Defying Gravity;" and bonus addition of "Making Good," a number that was cut from the original production. Songs from the German and Japanese language production editions of "Wicked" round out the bonus material.

The Fifth Annversary Edition Re-Release will be available on October 28th, 2008. For full track listing and to purchase click here.

Based on the novel by Gregory Maguire, "Wicked" has music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman. It is directed by Joe Mantello, with musical staging by Wayne Cilento. "Wicked" tells untold story of the witches of Oz. Long before Dorothy drops in, two other girls meet in the land of Oz. One, born with emerald-green skin, is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. "Wicked" tells the story of their remarkable odyssey, how these two unlikely friends grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch.

The Grammy Award-winning original cast recording of "Wicked," produced by Stephen Schwartz for Decca Broadway, has been one of the fastest selling Broadway recordings of recent years and has been certified 'Platinum' by the Recording Industry Association of America. "Wicked" is produced by Marc Platt, Universal Pictures, The Araca Group, Jon B. Platt and David Stone. "Wicked" can currently be seen in Los Angeles at the Pantages Theatre, New York, Chicago, London, Melbourne, Tokyo, Stuttgart, and on the North American national tour.

I'm reading the book now (for the 1st time) and planning to see it this spring

(Not in NYC)

I'm really interested in seeing how the story translates to the stage.

When I first picked up the book I was not enthralled....very wordy and I HATE wordy books....

lol Not as crazy as it sounds...I hate books that are written in a style where it seems like the author likes the sound of his/her own voice...

But...I bought it...I'm planning on seeing the show and I don't like to start a book and not finish it so I've kept reading and I LOVE the book!

I can see myself reading it more than once nod

The book is great and the author should be recommended. Though later he kinda made everything into a cliche.

the musical sucked. It's just sparkle and shit.

but queers like that.

I liked the musical! biggrin

I thought it was funny, entertaining and the music was surprisingly good (performances in London were superb, and I assume they are around the world).

I'd definately recommend it, particularly to those people who don't go to the theatre very often as it's a good "entry-level" musical (non-sophisticated, uncomplicated and not at all boring).
