When You Make A Purchase Using Your Credit Card.... Do you take your receipt from the cashier or do you ask them to throw it away, and that you don't need it? At the place I work at, there are a couple of regular customers who tell me, "I don't need the receipt; you can just throw it away". I wonder how these people can keep track of what's on their credit card(s) when they don't have the receipts to verify that the charges on their current bill are correct? This just seems risky to me, especially nowadays, with identity theft, and people charging unauthorized items onto another person's credit card without their knowledge (until the victim receives the bill and does not recognize some of what's been charged). I don't think you can steal someone's identity from a store receipt, since all of your credit card number is not printed on the receipt. But how can these people keep track of what they spent in which store? I guess maybe some people are too busy and/or don't care to keep track of how much they owe on their credit card(s). The people who don't keep their receipt from credit card purchases might very well be the same ones who don't keep their checkbook balanced. Too disorganized for me; since I like to keep track of my money and where it's all going. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

I take the receipt...not only that, when the cashier asks if I want the receipt or should he/she just put it in the bag...I take the receipt.
Learned that the hard way....bought my daughter a shirt...had the receipt in the bag...she put the bag down to look at some shoes and some punk ass teenagers swiped the bag...with the receipt in it. Not good at all I'm firmly planted in denial

however without the receipt might be hard to prove discrepancies.

Not good at all Definitely not good! I tend to take the receipt too, and not have the cashier put it in the bag. I usually tuck it into my wallet for save keeping. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

however without the receipt might be hard to prove discrepancies. if there is anything unusual going on typically they call with in the 10 min of the purchase, this has been my experience. Like if i ran an expensive piece of furniture on my AMX, they will cal right away. Or if im somewhere like another state and make a number of high-end purchases in a few hours. If i need to return something the receipt is in the businesses archives.

For instances, I want to return one sweater of 5 without a specific receipt, they will offer me store credit but refuse a return to my credit card because i lack specific evidence of purchase. All my credit cards will show the over all transaction but lack specific purchase detail. [Edited 10/22/08 21:34pm]

"$1 for YOU!" cause the fees would be more than the transactions themselves

"$1 for YOU!" cause the fees would be more than the transactions themselves I don't think I entirely understand this comment. I wish I had bought our flights by credit card. I didn't want the extra charge that came with credit card payment, so I took out cash from the ATM several times over several days (300GBP limit per day) and what with needing some of money for living, bills etc. it took quite a while to get the necessary amount set aside. In that time the exchange rate plummeted and what with 4.50GBP overseas transaction charges with each withdrawal I ended up paying more anyway!

I was just thinking of the ladies in the shop I just went to plying me with cheap vegetables. My dad made me get a credit card when I was 20, so I could get the plane ticket and free travel insurance than MasterCard had at the time. Haven't been without one since.

Thinking about it I must have used mine a few times because they always write to me notifying me that I've not used it for such and such a time and that I will lose it when it expires, so I think I just pay for something with it just for that reason every so often. My father then takes a blank signed cheque from the ones I leave back in the UK and pays it off straight away. Something like that. Money's overrated. I like foraging for food and rampant shoplifting.

I usually take the receipt and then shred it later on. Had a bad experience before with identity theft after I ordered tix for a theatre performance at my old college. "When words fail, music speaks..." --- Shakespeare

I take the receipt and throw it away later. I don't really keep track of what I spend by going through receipts and stuff. A quick look at the statement when I get it is enough for me to usually spot anything suspicious. Maybe I've missed stuff in the past, I don't know.

i always put receipts in my purse or handbag. usually find them weeks later and burn or shred them.
