SURRY, VIRGINIA (TICKER) —Former NFL star Michael Vick plans to plead guilty to state dogfighting charges in Virginia, according to paperwork filed Tuesday in Surry County Circuit Court.

A circuit court administrator said Vick will plead guilty via a video-conference call from federal prison in Leavenworth, Kansas, where he currently is serving a two-year sentence for dogfighting.

According to the Virginian-Pilot of Norfolk, Vick will plead guilty to the state charges in an attempt to receive an early release from his federal sentence and enter a halfway house.

Vick, 28, pleaded guilty in August 2007 to a federal dogfighting charge, admitting that he bankrolled the operation known as “Bad Newz Kennels” which was based on his property in rural Virginia.

Court papers revealed disturbing details of the operation, including the execution of underperforming dogs by electrocution, drowning, hanging and other means.

Vick was sentenced on December 10, 2007 to spend 23 months in jail. With good behavior, the former Atlanta Falcons quarterback could have his sentence reduced to 18 months, which would result in a release from prison in the summer of 2009.

The charge is uch too light, if you ask me, but at least he's pleading guilty. There's no way a believable "innocent" could be pled, and it would just be a waste of court time if he did.

Lots of teams need quarterbacks. Who will take the public relations hit and sign this guy?

Sports in the Bay Area is pretty depressing right now. The A's look promising in the near future with their now excellent farm system and the Sharks might just finally make it to the Stanley cup this season.

Okay, I agree with that. But I believe those guys did jail time too. However, that's how the cookie crumbles and he was the big fish in that situation. This happens every day in the judicial system and is more proof that if you gon' do some illegal shit don't have accomplices and/or witnesses cuz best believe if it's me that gets caught, I'm telling it all and making up some shit for good measure.

Dogs, in this country, are mostly raised as pets and part of our families and are NOT food. These dogs were raised specifically to be torn apart by other dogs and killed by humans for underperforming. And everyone that I know that hunts actually consumes what they eat so it's not purely for sport. Man has hunted animals since the beginning of time and I view that differently than purposely breeding animals to kill each other for human enjoyment and profit. In my eyes, that shit's not even in the same ballpark, it ain't even the same sport.
