How do you feel about photoshop making everything look better than it really is?

Does it disturb you? Do you even think about it? Do you think all celebs have perfect skin? Do you compare yourself unfavourably with pictures you see in magazines and the internet?

I don't think that most people realize that other than when tabloids want to show someone in the worst possible light, every single photo is changed in some way. We are almost never looking at an actual person anymore.

In general I believe it leads to unrealistic expectations. From everyone.

Photo touch up has been going on long before photoshop too - long before computers nod

nod I'm often surprised when a shot is published in a tabloid with comments that a certain person has let themselves go (bit flabbier, bit spottier, bit greasier etc) but really, they always looked like that confused any official publicity shots and photographs endorsing products are WAY WAY touched up.

It used to be harder, they had to airbrush onto the actual print. I've seen my grandma's wedding photo, all marks and blemishes removed.

yes, as with anything nod

probably depends how much time and money is allowed. I have had clients whose attitute is near enough is good enough, and then won't pay you to do a better job. I betcha cheapskatism is responsible for a lot of the crap we see.

I don't think about it and I don't care. My self worth ceased being based on what I appear like at 17. ( lol Which presently is a good thing.)

If not by means of photoshop falsehood in print has always been. I remember explaining to El Debarge why his thin frame didn't look the same in one of our photos as the model in the shot. ( He didn't have bent coat hangers and napkin paper polls secured with tape to fluff up the sweater from behind.)

Pictures showing perms where actually woman with naturally curly hair. Today the industry is a little more fearful of the sue happy. I once was used to do a photo campaign for a plastic surgeon. ( I did have some of the less invasive laser work done to make it "legit") however, was selected because I appear far younger then my natural 40 years..... For a blue eyed, blonde white woman. Truth is, I have Spanish ancestry mixed into my Scottish which gave me a leg up genetically.

Fake, fake fake! So perhaps I'm just blessed to live in LA and thus know all that is, is BS.

Sometimes it's a blessing and other times it's a curse. I don't think we would have as many women getting labiaplasties if there wasn't photoshopping/airbrushing. Too many girls rely on what they see in nudey mags as what a normal vagina looks like. I'm sorry but no one's pussy looks that pretty.

It's depressing. neutral

It's funny because I know that practically every image we see is photoshopped in some way or another. I know why it's done. It's a business move. The editors of magazines are trying to create this perfect fantasy image. Do I compare myself? Yes. Sometimes. boxed

Same here. lol boxed I've had to really try to stop myself in recent years. I used to always touch up the skin in pics of people (esp. of Mon and I) but I've learnt to leave them more natural lately. It's really tough though. I'm used to editing all the photos I take of all kinds of things, down to the smallest details, changing colours, light and everything, so I automatically was doing the same for portraits and family snapshots.

i hate the way fashion mags are photo shopped to death. it sends a rotten message to vulnerable young people.

having said that being able to remove red-eye from family photos is good.

Makes my professional plight in this life easier. I no longer have to strap band aids to model tits when they wear halter tops , and well, no more wringing my hands worrying if a chicken cutlet or that white cotton filling will show through her bra for a catalog.

It's not just fashion mags, though. It's EVERYthing now.
