Arthur Penhaligon, main character of Garth Nix's Keys To The Kingdom series. Books.
Rudolf van Amstelveen, main character of Thea Beckman's Kruistoch In Psijkerbroek (Crusade In Jeans). Book, don't even go near the movie. ( ) Frannie McCabe, main character in Jonathan Carroll's The Wooden Sea. Also a book. What can I say? I real alot. I wanted to put in Frodo Baggins, but Peter Jackson and Elijah Wood forever ruined that character for me. What a whack movies. [Edited 10/18/08 21:36pm]

i'll go with characters from nick hornby's books:
- Maureen from A Long Way Down. good grief "he asked me if i had an e-mail. i thought it was one of those unnecessary letters we get in the mail" - Hope from How To Be Good. (can't get over how ugly she is in the mom's eyes) - Rabbit from Slam: 'What was she doing at the party?' 'She lives there' 'She lives at a party? How does that work?'

Cool question. More than any 3 individual characters, I tend to have 3 favorite archetypes...
1) Folk blessed (or cursed) with immortality - the Wandering Jew, Comte de Saint-Germain, Dorian Gray or the Flying Dutchman, for example. 2) Artificial women, children and animals that come to "life" (and for some reason I especially like defenseless ones) - Pygmalion's Galatea, Pinnochio, the Velveteen Rabbit, the child android David and his robot teddy bear from Supertoys Last All Summer Long (and eventually the movie A.I.). 3) Supernaturally transsexual characters - Caeneus/Caenis or Iphis from Greek mythology, Virginia Woolfe's Orlando Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου
