Anyone know anything about stamps?

Got any collectors in here? I was going through some boxes my Dad gave me,and there was a envelope that had a bunch of unused great condition stamps, but I don't know where to even start to look for the worth of them. They don't have dates on them, but they are all 6 or 8 cents stamps. There is also a group od stamps called Minneapolis Gold Bond Stamps,I have no idea what these are for. So anyone know about stamps or a good place to look?

if you take them to a dealer, DO NOT SELL THE DEALER ANYTHING HE WANTS

just pay attention to which ones he/she wants.

they will low ball you so low on their offer it would be a crime.

even if they make an offer say for the whole collection, they likely could know that buying the whole collection there is one particular one in there thats is worth way more than they are offering for the whole lot.
Try to pay attention to which ones interest them and remember any details they give then do some research based on that.

the bonds stamp are likely not worth much, but i could be wrong. i dont remember clearly but those were something like food stamps or ration type things.

this should get you started.

i would also think that maybe being a collection from a collector that he may have wrote up a listing of what the more valuable ones are and what they are worth.

No,there was nothing with them, they were stuffed in an envelope that probably was used to send a letter as it was addressed to one of my Dad's relatives, but it was postmarked 1968. I don't know if there are any shops around here that have stamps dealers,I will have to check on that. Thanks! biggrin

Horatio is correct, the Gold Bond Stamps really aren't worth much. I doubt that a dealer would even purchase them. However if you have a lot of them you might be able to get something for them on ebay.

This link explains about the Gold Bond Stamps.

As for identifying your stamps, this link should help you:

http://www.theswedishtiger.com/

Enter "United States" and then you can click on the color of the stamp which will bring up a page with photos of the stamps helping you to identify what stamps you have.

Once you have them identified, you can go to this website to find the value:

Good luck
