My Cousin Died Today She was only 28, a mother of a four year old little girl and a beautiful person.
Last year she slipped into a depression after a series of domestic issues took place. We (the family) were unaware of any of this, as she always seemed so upbeat. She began taking Oxicontin as a result of a surgery and became addicted to it (again, we had no idea this was happening). In order to beat this addiction, she began popping Tylenol for the pain. Apparently, way more than anyone should be taking. Over time, the Tylenol had a very bad effect on her liver, and on Saturday she was rushed to the hospital unconscious. I was in Paso Robles this weekend visiting my family and celebrating the opening of my brother’s new business. We received a call Saturday morning that she was in the hospital and that she had a 20% chance of living as her liver is shutting down, and eventually her kidneys, etc… we were all in shock because no one had any idea that she was doing this or going through this depression. I went to see her on Saturday but they wouldn’t let me in the ICU, it was past visiting time and only immediate family was being allowed in. I spent some time with her mother and brother… also; my mom and dad were there. I came back to Bakersfield yesterday afternoon. I received a call this morning at 7:40 AM; it was my mother. She said that Summer had died. I can’t believe it. |

Oxycontin is the worst drug out there. My brother also died from this...just one pill. That's all it took. So if any of you out there are struggling with this addiction please seek help. There is a new medication out there that is working wonders...a friend of mine is in the program now. This drug is no joke and it ruins lives.

I'd never even heard of Oxycontin until this weekend. I'm more shocked at the result of over-the-counter Tylenol.
If a basic pain medication can be so harmful to the body, and it's something you can grab so easily off of the shelves it should be more regulated. I am in complete shock over this, but I thank you all for your kind words. I just spoke to her aunt... I'm still in disbelief. |

June, I'm very sorry you are going through this loss. It's one thing when someone has lived their lives and another thing when they are so young. I am in complete shock over this, but I thank you all for your kind words. I just spoke to her aunt... I'm still in disbelief. It could have been the combination of the both...the same happened with my brother. Oxycontin is a very powerful drug that is time released. It works wonders for people that have chronic pain...but unfortunately it is over prescribed and gets into hands that shouldn't. It will be 10 years this December since my brother's passing and we've done tons of research on this. | |
