Why do I get the unsettling feeling that this picture is a required possession for everyone in the priesthood?

Someone is seriously paying off the umps to throw the series for the Phillies. Every bad call is going against the Rays it seems and last night Kazmir was getting squeezed with his pitches. Horrible.

Officials getting paid to throw a game already happened in the NBA. Why not the MLB?

Congratulations to pitcher Jamie Moyer who finally gets a World Series ring at the age of 45. clapping

But if I was on the Rays, I'd be angry. The series was gift wrapped and handed over to the Phillies by the umpires. disbelief

Even when they're not corrupt they still get caught up in the excitement along with everyone else, and it can affect their calls

Bad calls are a part of baseball. We all know that. But in this WS there were so many and they all went against the Rays. Of course the Rays playing like the Rays of '07 instead of '08 didn't help either.

missed a word

Correction: It wasn't one of the lowest rated, but THE lowest rated World Series ever.

From TV By The Numbers:

2008 World Series Lowest-Rated, Least-Watched Series Ever
Posted on 30 October 2008 by Robert Seidman

As predicted.

We saw the numbers earlier in the day, but I wanted to allow Philadelphia Phillies fans a few hours to savor their city’s first major championship in 25 years. Also, the Tampa Bay Rays should celebrate the success of going from never even having had a season where they won more games than they lost to being in the World Series. Philadelphia won the best of seven series in five games. But it took six telecasts since game five was suspended due to rain with the score tied 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth inning. The game resumed on Wednesday night and the Phillies went on to win the game by a score of 4-3.

Once again, the World Series did not go seven games - that hasn’t happened since the 2002 World Series matchup between the then Anaheim Angels and the San Francisco Giants.

This series averaged an 8.2/12 household rating/share and 13.2 million viewers. Going back to 1968, that’s the lowest-rated series. Viewers were not tracked until 1973, and it’s the least-viewed series, edging out the 2006 matchup between the St. Louis Cardinals and Detroit Tigers which had a 10.1/17 and averaged 15.812 million viewers. Going in, this series seemed to have no shot at outdoing that unless the series went seven games.

You can see all the historical averag...ck to 1968.
