how do you respond when someone attacks you on the internet?

do you:

1. retaliate with nastiness
2. laugh
3. ask yourself what you might have done
4. ignore it
5. acknowledge their issue and comfort them

question

It depends on what it's about. Some people can be ignored, some just need clarification. I've had instances where it's ended in a kind of "Oh well... shrug"
But there have been a few times where I've had 2 block the people 2 get them 2 stfu because an "Orgnote War" was starting. Sometimes ignoring isn't enough.

What irritates me, tho, is when someone says something that might offend me, and if I say that I don't like it or disagree, the PERSON gets bent out of shape and goes off! omg Then I become defensive, and an argument breaks out. Some people think it's okay 2 say whatever they want and hide behind their computers. disbelief

"Love Hurts.
Your lies, they cut me.
Now your words don't mean a thing.
I don't give a damn if you ever loved me..."

depends on the person and the insult, though i've gotten better at taking it in stride.

i find the internet distorts sincerity, so when someone posts something hurtful about me i need to keep that thought in mind.

I chastise myself (if I note it overtly.) At this point in my life it means I am paying far to much attention to what is going on in this paradigm which means I am ignoring things in the one I am focused on.

It doesn't really happen at this point.

I don't even have time to focus on the deepening depression my present career is on. eek I meant recession didn't i?

I've learnt to ignore it. To be honest, sometimes those "attacks" happen for a reason, or at least I should have been able to see something like that beforehand. Just laying it off altogether is the best idea,

But yeah, there was a time when I was pretty ill and spent a lot of time at home and had very little real social life. During those days if something like that occurred it did get me.

i know exactly what you mean.

they think that if you reject their behavior, that you are rejecting THEM as a person.

bizarre isnt it?

well with myspace now, sometimes it can become personal.

the young girls at work be'friend' their enemies so they can see each other's myspace page.

and they write threatening messages to each other.

it's sad.

I try to clarify my point (in case thats the reason for the ugliness)...and once I figure out that they have no interest in at least trying to see the whole picture, I usually respond with "if you insist" and I'll leave it at that....

It depends. But since I've gotten a little older, I kinda don't care anymore. I'm too busy (at 23...lol) worrying about my financial future and social security and stocks and stuff. Sometimes I lash back. Other times, I make things worse and add laughing emoticons. That seems to really piss people off. But I've seen and heard it all...soo...not really that impressed with Internet attacks. When I was younger, sure I'd fight back. I'd get really nasty with the words. As I got older, it was all about proving my point and then blocking that person. Now, I just sip my tea, write a two or three liner and move on.

(Most of the time to look at naughty anime pics... lol )
