I just gave my first power point presentation today It was semi nerve wracking. Making it is an easy process, but the damn drama...I had to enter some SPSS stats as charts through excell..cool..figured I'd figure out how to do the rest of the slide show later. Figured how to do it etc..went home and opened the floppy and everything was copascetic(sp?). Tried to finish it and complete it last night and the damn file wouldnt open anymore. Went to work to open it on the computer it was created on and still nothin..the disc became faulty somwewhwere along the lines..peanut butter? Had to make a new presentation at work in 90 minutes including charts in excell to transfer with SPSS. Finished and that disc it was burnin a hole..I guarded it with my life..bought a new plastic case for it and everyhthing. I went to buy one of those stick-pointers but the store I went to didnt carry them. Dang it. 5:30 crunch time..presentation went smoothly except when I went to far and had to arrow back after going thru slid e show again. 8.9 out of 10. Phew! "Climb in my fur."

well done...it's great when you have to wing it and it works out..although you wouldn't want that happening all the time

I just learned PowerPoint about 6 months ago. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

Congratulations! Changed careers because of powerpoint, excel, and the whole works. But you kept you cool, you were smooth...

You made me remember my first!
I added all this fancy stuff...like letters flying in...and fade outs/ins...too funny. I thought it looked awesome, until I did the presentation and realized how corny it looked. I learned simple and to the point is by far the better choice. And contrats on getting through it! [This message was edited Thu Nov 21 20:51:39 PST 2002 by LaVisHh]

It is more professional without all those fancy overdone backgrounds, letters entering like bullets etc..mine had just a simple basic emblem of color/shape on each slide. "Climb in my fur."

The first time was my first year in college. So that isn't sooo bad, but I never did that again!

Working with A/V aids can be a trip. I remember having to give a presentation at a conference on hip hop and had made an audio tape with samples that I was going to refer to. Checked with the conference organizer to make sure they had received my A/V request for a cassette player and she said everything was cool...
Got up on the mic and when I cued the tech to play the cassette... silence... what's happening? the tech is lookin at me like dude I dunno silence... the tech gives it another try uncomfortable silence... I was like oooh kay. I'm sitting in front of the people who funded my research and they're lookin at me like "yeeesss, we're waiting...?" So I then I had to freestyle... I made a comment about how the best mc's were those who could freestyle and improvise, and that's what I'm about to do. Gave my presentation and instead of letting them hear the clips, I had to flow with the lyrics myself. In the end it turned out well phew! but for the next time I had to give a presentation, I made a CD, audio cassette, and brought my own damn player! I wish I knew what you were talking about. When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading.
