In the winter, they're almost unaffordable, and to top it off, not good either that must really suck We are lucky most stuff can be grown here. We get oranges from USA in the summer, and grapes from USA in the winter. We get a few Chinese grown things like garlic thrown into the mix. I know people usually go out of their way to NOT buy stuff that isn't local produce - thinking of their carbon footprints! You wouldn't even have a choice then, since most stuff has got to come up to you from somewhere else.

actually I did, but I also always get all this other stuff not on the list.
Like today, I got skeleton costumes for example. Ure as bad as my husband, he goes to the supermarket almost every day for like a loaf of bread or something simular and comes out with at least three bags of groceries Yes, I shop at Aldi myself, and I have a real love/hate relationship with the store. I love being able to buy the basic staples (bread, canned food, boxed pasta, lunchmeat, hot dogs. pre-packaged cheese, cookies, chips) for such a reasonable price

In the dead of winter most produce comes from Chili for some reason....at least to our stores...and we're always warned not to buy produce from Chili because of sanitation problems. Why we don't get more produce from Florida and California in the winter, I don't know. Maybe cuz they're busy exporting the oranges, at least, to you guys So in the winter we eat mostly frozen and canned fruits, which just doesn't take the place of fresh. Bananas are about the only thing we get that's decent year round.

The name Aldi stands for Albrecht Discounter,( ALbrecht DIscounter) .Founded by the Albrecht brothers, who are probably among the top five richest men in the world. Those Albrecht brothers are even more elusive than Howard Hughes or Prince in the 80s... Despite their ghetto image, the quality, at least here in Germany, is almost always excellent and they always beat their competitors when it comes to neutral quality control tests. They are pretty strict and have high standards over here. I´m a bit surprised that they seem to be a bit gross in other countries. Trader Joe´s also belongs to them. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

Off-brand manufactured "food" is so not my thing. Well I'm so sorry that they stock the Aldis in YOUR neck of the woods with sub-par products I'm quite satisfied with the duck, smoked salmon and alpine chocolates found in my local Aldi, but I guess not everyone has it like THAT [Edited 10/17/08 12:57pm]

EXACTLY I just bought orchids from there so I can keep some sort of flowers in the house now that winter comes. The garden out back has pretty orange fall colors from the trees, but without the flowers it looks so lonely!

I LOVE Aldi, and I'm always really horny for their kitchen appliances (when they stock them). I have a chocolate mold and a donut maker from there, so I can make my own treats without them being overly sugary. I notice that they stock a few products from Trader Joe's, but I hadn't made the connection between them. I wish you could see the full range of products in the actual Trader Joes stores in the US, you would FREAK OUT and love it. Everything is yummy there. Now I just wish they would add more Trader Joes products to Aldi and then I'll be completely happy
