I was at the Oakland zoo with my neice when the big Oakland fire started. I remember first seeing it from the Elephant area. A bunch of smoke and people were talking about 50 houses being burnt. Then it kept getting bigger and bigger...over 2,000 houses were gone by the end of that day.
