Actually...he did land in Honduras on a later trip, which is how the country go its name (the waters were so deep that he proclaimed upon landing; "Gracias a Dios que salimos de esas honduras" / "Thank God that we are out of those depths". So yeah...my parents' native country literally is called "depths".

And I don't use the term "Indians" to refer to the peoples of the Americas. I rather Native Americans, Amerindians or Mesoamericans.

I meant North America- we celebrate it HERE, and he never came up this far.

Yeah. Have you ever read "Lies My Teacher Told Me" by James W. Loewen? It mentions the Columbus myth ("explorer" not ruthless conqueror) and why we celebrate his "discovery". Very interesting (although I read it about 10 years ago so I'm hazy on the facts).
