For "Celebrate the Conquest and Pillaging of the Americas" Day.

We have a freakin' parade down NYC's Fifth Ave. every year in honor of Cristobal Colon.

One year I fashioned one of those "memorial ribbons" ...
...out of gold foil and placed it on my lapel then went to work at Macy*s.

When anyone asked what it was for, I replied; "in memory of the millions of indigenous Americans who perished at the hands of Columbus and the Europeans' quest for Gold."

Yeah...I got some strange looks that day. lol

lol Yeah...I was on a roll back then.
One time I wrote a three-page essay title "The Columbus Myth" that summarized all the lies taught to us in school about Columbus, and stated how he was no better that Hitler, and then ran of like two dozen copies of it and left it in the Employee Lounge.
Ahhh...to be young and full of leisure time once again!

Oh damn... you're good. lol It's such a weird thing to celebrate. And I'm pretty conflicted since I'm Dominican. The natives of Hispaniola were enslaved, worked to death, and murdered, but at the same time, if the Europeans hadn't come to the Americas, I wouldn't exist. I don't know how I should feel about it confused

Actually...he did land in Honduras on a later trip, which is how the country go its name (the waters were so deep that he proclaimed upon landing; "Gracias a Dios que salimos de esas honduras" / "Thank God that we are out of those depths". So yeah...my parents' native country literally is called "depths".

And I don't use the term "Indians" to refer to the peoples of the Americas. I rather Native Americans, Amerindians or Mesoamericans.
