Computer geeks, I need your help!

My computer keeps freezing after every half an hour or so so then I have to do a hard reboot. Also, when I close the lid to my laptop, it does not go to sleep, telling me that the computer is not recognizing the lid is closed.

Anyone have any ideas or is it just time to get a new computer?

Well, I don't know about laptops, but I was having a freezing problem recently with my PC. I just bought it in January of this year and paid a lot for it. After hours of searching for possible answers in safe-mode, I got it working by doing this:

Running spyware and virus checks, delete all infect files (obviously).
Disabled add-ons that weren't necessary.
Deleted programs that my kids downloaded that seemed suspicious.

After that, I opened IE in safe-mode and started each program individually. Turns out my virus protection was the whole problem. I was using Trend, which Best Buy installed on my computer when I bought it. I deleted it and installed McAfee. Apparently Trend sent through some automatic updates in September that included labeling some necessary Windows files as malicious.

No problems since.

OK, let's start at the beginning.

First, is your computer plugged in and turned on?

Are you getting the blue screen of death when it freezes?
The check. The string he dropped. The Mona Lisa. The musical notes taken out of a hat. The glass. The toy shotgun painting. The things he found. Therefore, everything seen–every object, that is, plus the process of looking at it–is a Duchamp.
