I've never seen the Exorcist on the big screen but the North Park theatre is doing old horror movies all month and i'm going!!!

a bunch of queens and a great movie who can ask for anything more?

I watched it as a little kid...a friend of my dad´s thought it would be a good idea to watch this on VHS together with the families, the kids, etc. , with some popcorn and potato chips.

Needless to say, it was a disturbing experience...and funny at the same time.

My friends and I saw it on the big screen in 2000 I think. It was so much fun!
Everyone was screaming and hiding in there seats.

A few days later my friends and I saw a statue similar to the one in the movie,we freaked out

My teacher in high school rented this for us to watch in the classroom one Friday. I had never heard of it before,but when one of the boys was getting excited about the girl that was supposed to be masturbate with a knife,I choose not to watch,just the thought of it sounded to gross. i saw it on the big screen when it was rereleased a few years ago.

i went to a matinee during the week because i was working nights and i figured i'd kill time before work seeing a movie.

i was the only one there. alone. in a movie theater. watching the exorcist.

it was fun!

it was the version with the restored footage or whatever. i always thought the exorcist was kind of a silly movie, though i think some of the subtler stuff in the movie - the subliminal images, the shadowy interiors of the house in the scenes leading up to the "money shot" scenes - are really scary in a way that you don't see in movies anymore.

my mom saw it when it first came out and said it was the scariest movie of it's time. we were forbidden to watch it, along with Madonna, Prince, Heavy Metal, and other Horror Movies. Though she laxed on the first two as we got older the others were hard rules. I think my sophomore year of college we watched the Exorcist together on a trip home...a Christmas trip i think.

i think that's why i thought it was so silly when i got older and finally did watch it. i was expecting the scariest movie ever of all time, and i think my imagination was building up scarier images than i saw in the actual film.

I love the original movie. The demon wins its mission, incredible performances, direction, sound design and techniques that were nominated for Academy awards, and you have this groundbreaking ultra intense, realistically disturbing level of intent to hurt the audience aesthetically, to horrify them, you have a little girl stabbing her bloody vagina with a crucifix then pulling her own mom's face into her damaged crotch while commanding in an old woman's voice "Let Jesus fuck you. Lick me." (never even heard of in a Hollywood movie at the time, but now copied by EVERYTHING. I mean the idea of a deep voice for possession is now what you would expect... in real life! That's a sign of creative brilliance so deep it becomes cultural standard). There was great reason this movie caused such deep fear and belief that it was a truly occult/satanic experience to sit through at the time. Compare this to the conservative "Hollywood" Rosemary's Baby which was so well regarded, but had no such groundbreaking attributes about it. I think much of it's brilliance is now taken for granted because of how it has become normal cultural imagery and film technique to shock audiences with the taboo, forbidden, or disturbing. We're numb to it now. But those few years when it was new... it was a HUGE deal.

I remember my best friend telling me he was watching it with his stepdad (back in 1979 on television). The stepdad told that there was something about the part where where she is
slowly throwing up to the side on her pillow that he shouldn't tell him... that she was actually supposed to be shitting out of her mouth. I swear no movie had such an overpowering Satanic mood and aura! The only thing that comes close is if you had seen Blair Witch before the hype on its intial indie release with no knowledge of what it was about. but that's a whole 'nother divided camp.

June 19, 1973: I was one of the first on line on opening night after having read the book twice already (I was a weird kid). When I came out of the theater, everybody was running up to me to get my opinion and asking me if they should go inside to see it. The movie had a lot of hype surrounding it about people passing out and fainting in the theater, and stories of people losing their minds after seeing it, lol. So I guess they wanted to get the opinion of a little kid before they dared go in and see it for themselves (some people actually decided not to go into the theater, lol). Needless to say I LOVED it! Except that there were a few scenes in the book that never made it to the movie, even in "The Version You've Never Seen" that was released in 2000, although it contained more than the original release.

I still feel a very close connection to Linda Blair as a result of having been so into that movie. It's one of my all time favorites.

i went to see it a few years ago when it was re released with my brother. he was really freaked out and i have to say that the older i get the longer these things stay with me. i still hate to catch a glimpse of reagen in devil mode.

as horrors go though, well worth seeing on the big screen.

its funny how slowly paced that is now compared to contemporary horror!

I spoiled it by reading the book first, which scared me shitless at the age of 14 it gave me nightmares.

Though I remember one of the nights when I was reading William Peter Blatty's novel in bed, I could have sworn my bed was shaking!!! The power of suggestion compelled me I suppose, but I could have sworn my bed was really shaking, lol. It was probably ME that was shaking, lol. Can't believe that was 35 years ago!

that was pretty early on in the book too, and ones mind thinks of so many worse things than the book ultimnately delivered too!

My Kids Will Never See Horror Movies Ever

I saw the rerelease in the theater a while back with a friend of mine. He went back to his empty house after and slept with the lights on all night.

I picked up the DVD a year or two later and still haven't watched it yet. Either I haven't been in the mood, the kids are around, or I'm totally alone for the weekend. Can't find a decent time to watch it.

I also collected MONSTER and FANGORIA magazines.

It's funny because I hadn't even seen the movie and the commercials would terrify me. I mean, I would have nightmares from the commercials alone. TUBULAR BELLS was horrifying to me.

I eventually saw it and thought it was brilliant. I still consider it to be the perfect movie. Script, lighting, acting, etc.
