Are there benifits to online relationships vs RL ones?

i know it can go both ways, but i figured it would be an apropriate question considering this is where alot of us spend a good portion of time.

There're less inhibitions, cause most of us I'd take it are completely comfortable right now typing away. Not worried about how we look, or sound, or if we are saying the right things

Online is as good a place as any to meet someone. And it's a great way to stay in each other's lives for those who are separated by many miles.

But there's not one damn thing about an online-only relationship that would be an advantage over one that occurs in real-time. I don't know how anyone could carry something like that on without the expectation that it would move to real-time and/or someone would move to be with the other for the long distance cases.

RL ones are always better. you can stay connected with people who are far way by way of the internet, not to mention make new friends and relationships which can become real.

Real life relationships are far more beneficial than online.

Online relationships are fun and great, and really end up off the internet anyway. Phone conversations, letters and frequent visits are usually what it turns into..

..and it's great - for a bit.

taking it over years before any kind of substantial movement can wear on a person...

...i need to see my bf as often as possible. not everyday, but every weekend? sure..

once every six months after a while just isn't enough...

the way i play it, anything other than a platonic relationship would be an accident. I cant afford to be in serious relationships anymore,(that shyt is painfull, and you know how we ru from that!!) but i can afford to try to love and adore my friends.

Very true... It is not something I would choose to continue endlessly without a plan/vision in mind.

Ian and I did the once every six months (approx) thing for a while -- and when I say a while, practically for four years! It isn't easy to be away from the person you love for such long stretches of time. Our relationship was and is strong and it could have endured it for longer, but we knew that being away from each other "indefinitely" was always a going to be a temporary arrangement.

We had to wait to get things sorted out but now we have been living together and married for over 2 years now and it is amazing. To be able to share the day to day things together is wonderful. I think having been apart for so long has made us appreciate the day to day things we can share with each other even more.

An online hug can never replace being in the arms of the person you love and who loves you.

I've done the online relationship thing too for a while, relocating to be closer was something I was willing to do and would've done but things didn't work out.

Well, it keeps us in touch since we live so far away from me, but we met in person and are now trying to make a pact to not go more than three months without seeing one another. We'd like it to be more than that, but with work, school, kids, and money right now that's the best we can do. When I'm ready to introduce him to my kids then it will get easier.

Things are progressing slowly, and it's good for us now.

I guess maybe some people could have an online relationship only and it suit them because they have issues with committment or something. I don't know. For me I'd never want an online ONLY relationship.
