The Org's Gay Community Is Huge!

Call me naive but it took me a good 6 months here to realise how many gay men there are on the org. Seems like there's a disproportionate amount compared to the number of gay people in other walks of life.

Is this because of Prince's androgeny and undouted sex appeal?

His message and the theme of much of his work would promote harmony bewtween all sexual orientations and values sexual freedom. I guess that's why.

Hands up who's gay.

Sorry, but being gay and liking Prince might seem obvious but not in my case. I grew up liking dance and funk music in the 70's and 80's Bootsy, Parliment, EW&F, Brick, Barkays to Shalamar, Midnight Star, Commodores and Prince

I like to hear Prince sing and I love trying to understand his lyrics but he does NOT turn me on in the least, his sex appal does nothing for me. I don't want to dress like him, impersonate him, date him, or help him put on eye liner. It is such a myth IMO.

I'm sure there are gay people who like Garth Brooks, U2, the Beatles, the Stones, Boy George, Barbra Streisand, Rage Against the Machine, Puddle of Mudd, Eminem etc. People like who they like, understand what I am saying?

If you say, wow, there are a lot of gay people in the fashion industry. Its because they are not hiding. There are also a lot of gay bankers, UPS drivers, dentists, doctors, lawyers, firemen, Christians, and truck drivers.

thats it

"Is this because of Prince's androgeny and undouted sex appeal?"

Hardly. It's about the music...

I was actually turned off my his 'androgeny' when I was a teenager. And the sex appeal comes through, for me, in such sexy songs as INSATIABLE and so on, and not on his physical appearance...

So u're saying gay people are found in all walks of life but perhaps in certain areas gay people are more open about their sexuality? So u wouldn't say a Prince forum could likely have more gay members than somewhere else?
Gay people are spread evenly throughtout the world and certain characteristics don't precipitate particular preferences. Ok.

I don't doubt that gay people may like Barbra Streisand. But is it possible that perhaps Prince would be more popular among gay people?

There is something about his "message" surely?

Wait a minute, what am I actually trying to get at? I have no idea. Close my thread and smack me over the head.

I'm not physically attracted to Prince but I was ALWAYS very attracted to his openness in expressing his feminine side. It truly inspired me in my own life to express myself. I'm always shocked at how FEW gay Prince fans I meet. Sure there are a lot on line but at gatherings I'm almost always the only one.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that Prince has never specifically spoke out in support of the gay community. People like Madonna and Bette and Cindi are have clearly expressed their support of gays. Prince toyed with his feminine side in the 80s and early 90s but then again, so was every other Metal band at that time. Poison dressed more like women than Prince did.

Of the few mentions of homosexuality in his music he never really takes a side or implies his acceptance of it, he merely sings about it happening.

She saw me walking down the street several times today.
Kinda turned me on when she looked at me and said "come here"
I don't usually talk to strangers, but she was so pretty
what can I lose if I give a little ear

What's up pretty girl, aint got time to play
baby didn't say to much, she said "are you gay"
kinda took me by surprise, I didn't know what to do
Just looked her in her eyes and said, "no are you?"

Classic!

"turn a gay preacher to a sinner..."

"She just said, are you gay?"

"Am I black or white? Am I straight or gay?"

I remember Bart Van H trying to argue Prince as a homophobe after a posting at the old L4Oa website had a story of P directing a gay man who told him he looked "fabuLOUS" to another member of the NPG.

Most straight guys who hate Prince suspect those who love him are either deaf, fruity or downright gay. I'm sure they'd have a good laugh just thinking some Prince fans can afford to be homophobic, let alone Prince himself.

There was a funny moment at the London show on 5th October.P was half-way thru singing 'One Kiss At A Time', and this guy shouted out "I Love You".
Prince said"That voice was WAY too low",stopped playing his guitar, and said,"guys, if you want to tell me you love me, wait until some big rock and roll number."
Was very funny!!

This kind of comment is far from homophobic. Considering the context of it, it's quite funny! Bart would have insisted that this was proof that Prince hates fags.

Sorry to upset all the 'huge gay members'...

Butt I always got the impression that Prince was as Anti Gay as Eminem.

One of the aftershow reports has Prince commenting to a couple of Dutch gus that he is always suspicious of groups of men on their own -
add to this the countless Lyrics against and not one Pro ...
Also - I doubt if his new religious beliefs would support gay tendencies.

We first became aware of the 'Huge Gay Membership' at the Dublin concert, when we were sitting beside some over expressive 'huge Gay members'...

Eminem doesn't like gays???omfg
I don't think P is anti-gay AT ALL! The comment to the guys was meant as a joke-and, it was funny!
I can't remember hearing an anti-gay message in any of his lyrics either! This is the guy who has spun off alot of lyrics about homosexuality(most of which are listed on this thread), and spend a great deal of time in the late 80's under the female alter-ego Camille. The guy is evidently in touch with his female-side, which in turn DEFINATELY doesn't make him anti-gay.
ALTHO...if he IS a JW or whatever he is, then I'm sure they don't look upon being gay as a reason to have a party, so until he spills out some shit about it being 'abnormal', then I'll believe that he doesn't give a shit.
Oh, and you have my sympathy for sitting next to some over-expressive gay members. Those boys can scream louder and higher than the girls!!

Very easy to annoy people on the org.
I was waiting for the first self indulgent politically correct idiot to reply to my tongue in cheek post,
self righteous campaigners like yourself usually cant spot that.
I remember reading the old org posts daily for a good laugh(our post was very funny)

Hope you get lots of support.

PS - If you remember correctly prince was always struggling against his darker alter ego.

That has nothing to do with this topic. Prince being in touch with his feminine side doesn't mean he's pro-Gay.

Are you guys trying to imply that Prince is anti-gay? That is ridiculous! Prince may not "embrace" the gay community like Madonna,Cher and others do,but to say that he is "anti-gay" is a stretch, doncha think?
