"Reign of Fire" - Hmmm... shouldn't a dragon movie actually have some friggin' dragons in it??? SPOILERS INVOLVED

Listen: There was a movie called "Reign of Fire" and my son wanted it because he likes fire-breathing dragons. Would you believe that I am such a softie that I bought it for him without ever having seen it? Well, I did.

And so starts our story... it is an age-old story, boy wants movie, daddy buys movie, daddy and boy watch movie, movie sucks. When one buys a movie about fire-breathing dragons, one expects the dragons to make an appearance, yet this movie about dragons contained about 3 total minutes of dragon action.

I am not kidding when I tell you that I had high hopes that this movie would not suck and that the dragons would make is worthwhile. It looked promising, as a dragon wrecked shit within the first seven minutes of the movie. The dragon was on screen for about 10 - 15 seconds at that point. This was promising, indeed! The only problem is that the dragons never became a part of the movie, they were relegated to a plot device for an unfolding drama and, yes, love story to come.

Goddamn it, the dragons were the only reason anyone watched that piece of shit and there were really no dragons in the damned movie!!!

Not to spoil the movie or anything, but the dragons are secondary characters at best and it is not satisfying when they kill the male dragon, as you have not been given the opportunity to form any opinion of the dragons at all.

It could have been a good movie... but it wasn't.

Sad....

I liked it!

I thought it was a cool little story about how a scourge of dragons had affected a man's life (not to mention the rest of the world).

And, that male dragon was serious! I saw it months ago and was thinking about it early this morning -- 'course, the Jurassic Park books and movies have been known to give me nightmares...

One of the guys at work bought it yesturday. We previewed it in my office.

Although I just used the "chapter select" option to scan the movie for some kick-butt dragon fights and did not see the movie, that was the impression I got.

Your right. It could of been a great movie. I guess the budget wasn't enough to have a george lucas staff to go wild with it.

Kinda misleading with the previews showing all these crazy fight scenes.

I was also a bit disappointed with the lack of dragons. Also the movie poster made it look like the dragons were going to raise hell in LONDON...when the movie started all that shit had already happened...

BUT having Christian Bale shirtless was more than enough for me...

I wonder if anyone has ever added up the total time that a dragon was on screen in that movie... I bet it is not more than 3 to 5 minutes.

DAMN IT!!!

Godzilla was on screen 85% of the time in his movies, for fuck's sake!!!

Here is a good way to picture this movie...

Picture Mad Max with about 3 minutes of dragons thrown in, but not nearly as good as Mad Max...

okay, here is how you make a movie as good as Reign of Fire: find any post-apocalyptic movie scenery and throw in a couple of seconds of CGI dragons, hire pseudo-popular actors and make sure that the dialog is bad and poorly delivered.

Yeah!!!

What was up with that???

The trailer showed hundreds of dragons flying around in the air... wrecking shit! The only scene in the movie where there were a lot of dragons in the air lasted about 5 seconds, maybe 10 at most.

I thought the movie sucked myself.

But the real reason I went to see it was only to hear my name come out of the speakers.

Dragonslayer was actually a pretty good dragon movie. As long as your son won't be sad if the dragon dies at the end.

Well, try to find that one for him. I'm sure he'll like it. It was made in 1981 (I think) and at the time I liked it too smile

Oh, did he enjoy Harry Potter?

I've become so desensitized to shit films, I rent about 10 movies a week because it's so cheap in Thailand and now I can even watch a Chris Farrelly film in one sitting.

I feel for u.

Doesn't your kiddie like those inane animal/sport hybrid movies? Kids usually love those, well my wife does anyway.

I just got this DVD for my birthday, but I'd already seen it in theaters . . .

I have to defend this movie! The only thing that I'd change is McConaughey's over-the-top character (straight out of a comic book).

But think about this, seriously: if there were SO many dragons that they were in the whole movie, the human survivors would not have lasted that long . . .

I thought the skydiving scene (out of an Airwolf-style helicopter no less) is great!

And the dragons (when you DO see them) rival anything Lucas has put out lately . . .

Okay... I have a question though...

Why did the dragons have holes in their wings??? Lots of holes...

You have a point about the human survivors not lasting long if a lot of dragons were flying all over the joint, but... DAMN, I wanted to see some action!

You are also right about MM's performance...

Good question about the holes. I'll have to look for that when I watch it again.

My guess is that those are bullet holes of some sort. A big enough hole in the wing would eventually heal up around the edges, but never close.

This movie takes place in England. Did you wonder why there wasn't some underground bunker there? (Like our NORAD).

The CGI is amazing though (for what they do actually show)!!
