Please just speak for yourself, and not sign "the over 30 crowd". I don't think kids have it as good as you do. They have the gadgets and what-not, but look at all that kids today have to face in school, plus look at the future they're going to inherit.

And I remember promising myself that when I grew up, there was no way in hell I was going to lay a bunch of crap like that on kids about how hard I had it and how easy they've got it! But now that... I'm over the ripe old age of thirty, I can't help but look around and notice the youth of today.

You've got it so easy! I mean, compared to my childhood, you live in a damn utopia! And I hate to say it but you kids today you don't know how good you've got it!

I mean, when I was a kid we didn't have the Internet. If we wanted to know something, We had to go to the damn library and look it up ourselves, in the card catalogue!!
There was no email!! We had to actually write somebody a letter, with a pen! Then you had to walk all the way across the street and put it in the mailbox and it would take like a week to get there!

There were no MP3' s or Napsters! You wanted to steal music, you had to hitchhike to the damn record store and shoplift it yourself! Or you had to wait around all day to tape it off the radio and the DJ'd usually talk over the beginning and @#*% it all up!

We didn't have fancy crap like Call Waiting! If you were on the phone and somebody else called they got a busy signal, that's it!

And we didn't have fancy Caller ID either! When the phone rang, you had no idea who it was! It could be your school, your mom, your boss, your Bookie, your drug dealer, a collections agent, you just didn't know!!! You had to pick it up and take your chances, mister!

We didn't have any fancy Sony Playstation video games with high-resolution 3-D graphics! We had the Atari 2600! With games like 'Space Invaders' and 'asteroids'. Your guy was a little square! You actually had to use your I mag ination!! And there were no multiple levels or screens, it was just one screen, forever!

And you could never win. The game just kept getting harder and harder and faster and faster until you died! Just like LIFE!

You had to use a little book called a TV Guide to find out what was on! You were screwed when it Came to channel surfing! You had to get off your ass and walk over to the TV to change the Channel and there was no Cartoon Network either! You could only get cartoons on Saturday Morning. Do you Hear what I'm saying!?! We had to wait ALL WEEK for cartoons, you spoiled little rat-bastards!

And we didn't have microwaves, if we wanted to heat something up we had to use the stove ... Imagine that! that's exactly what I'm talking about! You kids today have got it too easy. You're spoiled. You guys wouldn't have lasted five minutes back in 1980!

whoa! 106
My grandma who is 100 and lived on a remote farm, told me when she was about 6 she saw a car for the first time and she was absolutely petrified at all the noise it made. She said her mum dared to go for a ride in it, but my grandma went and hid in the barn so she wouldn't have to.

i don't think there's a need to go totally amish, but i think a balance is good. gadgets are good, but getting away from them is good too. i try to be lite on the internet over the weekend and instead do a lot of running around, cooking, reading, seeing shows, hanging out with friends, etc. when i'm not away from the house i keep the cell phone in its charger unless i have a call to make or unless i know i'm expecting a call. we record stuff we want to see on TV and watch it when we want to watch TV, rather than watching stuff every night as it comes on.

stuff like that makes a difference. it's cool to have all the gadgets as long as you save room for the other stuff in life.

ok so I had a microwave since the age of 6 but it was a monsterous thing called a "radar range" lol and I'm 35 but the rest of that is all true! lol
one thing that annoys me now a days is bus stops....when I was a kid in elementary school,I would walk down a long dirt road and wait alone for the bus to come get me, if I wasn't at that stop when the bus got there....it zoomed on by regadless if I was running up the road or not. then...in middle school all the kids from town would walk up to the church parking lot to get picked up....there were not adults there to supervise.
Now, each kid stands at the end of their driveway WITH a parent! and the GD MFn' school bus stops every F'n 10 feet! then the parents chic chats with the bus driver or the mom runs back in and gets the lunch or better yet...there's no kid at all....the bus still stops, opens the door and WAITS for the slug to come out! :grr: makes me mental!

oh yeah....and cable? The town I grew up in still doesn't have cable! I didn't see cable TV untill I was a teenager and even then it was only when I visted my cousin! anyone remeber Preview? that whacky little antena on your house that would give you ONE movie channel. lol
and thank god we didn't have to wear helmets to ride your bike!
"not a fan" falloff yeah...ok

And you KNOW this mayne! lol

Plus, 5 times outta 10 the remote BEEN lost (if you were ritzy enough to have a tv with a remote) and 9 times outta 10 the dial was broke so you had to use a pair of plyers to change that joker. And speaking of bad reception, I grew up with foil on the rabbit ears and having to serve as a human gatdamn antenna that couldn't move when the pitcha was "just right" lol

Half the shit we were subjected to would be considered child abuse today. Punk ass, youngstas! lol

obsessed

I know one thing for sure we used to get outside
and play, run, rollerskate, iceskate, make snowmen
and have snowball fights, play marbles, and the list
goes on. lol

My point being, that we didn't have the electronic gagets
to keep us inside....and I'm really glad I got to grow up
that way. cool

And I did have to walk to school lol We didn't have
school buses where I grew up...so it was 3 blocks to elementary
school, a mile to junior high school, and 2+miles to senior high school.

Nevertheless, I think kids today still have it tough in many ways....
the amount of work that's expected from them in school for one thing.
