People often say handsome when a man looks good and pretty of a woman looking good, is there a difference?
Someone on the org called me pretty too implying my effeminate look, is it bad for a male looking "pretty"?
Wichc would you rather be called?

Calling a man "pretty" does have some feminine connotations, but it isn't a bad thing.
Think male models, I'd usually call them pretty before I'd call them handsome.
Prince is pretty.

For a woman, being handsome usually doesn't mean pretty, but can still define a more unconventional attractiveness - pretty IMO, is that childlike "protect me" look, small nose, mouth and big eyes. when a woman is handsome, it's almost the opposite, strong features and the "I can take care of myself and our offspring".
A heavyset, menopausal matriarch will often be called handsome, like Queen Victoria!

a pretty man can still be handsome - look at Brad Pitt.

Anyhoo, I agree with CarrieMpls, 'pretty' does have feminine connotations but I wouldn't be offended by it.

I use the two interchangeably, although a "pretty" man tends toward more tedious grooming, somewhat sharper or smarter features or features that might be characteristically more appreciated in females -- long eyelashes; high cheekbones; full lips; or smooth, clear skin, for example.

I'd be OK with being called handsome or pretty, so long as the pretty doesn't mean "overly primped."

Actually, I don't say handsome, now that I think about it...I say pretty or fine or beautiful. And I think beautiful is more of a chick thing too.
But I WOULD say pretty is the guy has more feature's you'd associate with femininity (Is that shit a word?)

A man who is 'pretty' is somebody the guys in the locker room are going to beat up, and the girls want to take shopping.

A man who is 'handsome' is somebody the women want to throw them around the room and pound the poonani senseless.

It's okay to call a dude pretty but what if you called a female 'handsome' bcuz she had masculine features?!
