Where I live, Hayward California, has a population of about 145,000 and we have had:

2008 - 6 murders so far this year.
2007 - 5 murders
2006 - 2 murders
2005 - 11 murders

I guess eveyone goes one city over to Oakland to murder. Oakland has a population of about 420,000 and the following murder rates:

2008 - 105 so far this year.
2007 - 107
2006 - 145
2005 - 93

Statistically...San Jose is the safest big city in America. It has had that reputation for a while now.

I'm not sure of the exact numbers of murders in Toronto this year. We don't have a lot compared to some cities, but the ones we have had are mostly committed by low-life, gun-toting thugs! Pieces of shit who don't care about anyone or anything.

Toronto, Ontario, Canada - 84 homicides in 2007 sad

Wouldn't a per-capita give a much truer picture?

Toronto had 1.8 per 100,000, according to the http://www.toronto.ca/qua...safety.htm

I thought it might be a tougher statistic for everyone to find, though.

Supposedly 58 in San Diego, down by 10 from 2006, yet gang homicides up by over 50%, killed by police up (7 vs. 2). Pop. 1.3 million or so. Deadliest year 1991 167 (crack epidemic peak), fewest 1953, 7.
