I don't get star struck by mere celebrity (Tom Cruise, for example), but I am definitely excited to see certain people, particularly musicians or some other artist I really admire

I get excited to meet certain people I admire as well (which in all honesty is few and fair between), but when I do meet them I don't fawn all over them.

The majority of celebs that I have met were through work or through my brother - and I didn't actively set out to meet them or really care if I met them or not.

Living here in L.A, I've seen lots when I'm out and about, but I've always respected their privacy. If you ever visit L.A., make sure you go to the Target store in West Hollywood, I usually see somebody familiar or famous everytime I go. That said, my partner met John Frusciante years ago, not by chance, but because he was his Landlord, worst tenant he ever had.

I've met lots of Israeli celebs that none of u would know, but I'm not sure that counts.

As for int'l - I've met a few (studied Italian with Cate Blanchett before she was famous!) but my best story is from when I was 11. We were eating at an inner-city Italian restaurant. When I went to the toilet I noticed a fairly well-known amd well-respected Oz rocker named Richard Clapton. I told my older brother (13) wo was like the authoruty on all these things and super-confident in my eyes. At first he didn't believe me it was him and then he sent ME to get his autograph. I went obediently and this guy he was sitting with said: I'll give you mine too, if you like. I just thought of looked at him blankly so he said: oh, never mind (or something). I walked back over to my brothers and said to them: I think the guy he's with is MICHAEL HUTCHENCE (this was 1982 - INXS were big but not super-massive like later). The funny thing was my brothers were both massive INXS fans (me less). Anyway they then went over to get his autograph, but I was too embarrassed.
I used to see him around a lot though after that - mainly riding his bicycle. Never talked to him though.

Another good story:

At university I was doing a paper on New Black Film (this was 1991 I think). There was very little info and my older brother (same one) said: why don't you try to call their offices. I thought it was a crazy idea, but somehow Ifound the numbers (this was pre-Internet!!!) and I got some good info from the people at "40 Acres And a MUle" (Spike Lee's joint). Then I rang the Hudlin Bros. office (the guys who made House Party) - I think they were involved in the "Black Film Coalition" or something. I spoke to a secretary and told her about my paper. She told me to wait, and some guy got on the phone. I said: "I'm writing a paper about Reginald Hudlin." He said "That's me." That blew away my 19 y.o/. arse (I was from Sydney, a backwater in those days, and I was speaking to one of the hottest new directors who'd done Eddie Murphy's Raw!!!) We chatted for about half an hour.

Oh yeah - I got an A++ or something (duhhhh!)

I don't think I've ever met any super famous movie/tv celebs, (I've seen a few); but I have met some fairly famous artists:

Yinka Shonibare (I got to interview him.)
William Kentridge
Cai Guo-Qiang
Christo & Jeanne-Claude
Milton Glaser (the guy who designed the I heart NY logo)
Brice Marden

art critics/academicians:

Arthur Danto
Rosalind Krauss (took two courses with her)
Okwui Enwezor

miscellaneous:

Eldridge Cleaver (Black Panther)
Roger Guenveur Smith (actor)
BJ Armstrong (used to play for the Chicago Bulls)
Ezra Henrickson (professional soccer player)
Juan Escovedo (musician -- Sheila E. brother)

And I worked for two years with someone who is part of a very well known political family.

I've met a few here and there: Mark Wahlberg when he was still Marky Mark (won a meet and greet from a radio contest). Met the boys from A Lighter Shade of Brown the same night. Later on, I've met Edward James Olmos, Rita Moreno, Jorge and Carlos Santana. Most recently, I met Boz Boorer in Los Angeles while Morrissey had the 3 nights in Pasadena gig and Andy Rourke at a Chicago Night Club. smile
