Have you ever met a celebrity? I have.
Not an actor or singer type-celebrity though, but a somewhat political one. I've had the privilege of meeting Roz Shakespeare. She was Canada's first police officer to come out as transsexual and to publicly transition from male to female. Very nice person. I've got a lot of respect for anyone who's brave enough to be true to themselves. But to take that extra step and do something no one else had before is that much more amazing. Anyone else? Lots. Maybe the most fun was sharing a tram with William Shatner. Studies have shown the ass crack of the average Prince fan to be abnormally large. This explains the ease and frequency of their panties bunching up in it. |

Trent Reznor. He's much more butch and good looking now, but the picture above was exactly how he looked when I met him. I was in a large bar/concert-hall in Frankfurt Germany back in 93. Trent was at the bar about 10 feet away from me. I immediately walked up to him and said... and these were my words, , "who are you?!?!?!?" He stared at me. And I went on, "You're Trent Reznor arent you?" He said yes, and we talked briefly. He was very friendly, but kind of strange. A bit boring. He took stage after the band that was playin (Die Krupps) had finished their set. It was one of the best shows I had ever been to.

I met Colin Baker a few months ago, he was one of the Dr Who's. Not how I remember him but I suppose it has been about 20 years since he was Dr Who, he looks like a cuddly grandad now!

It's not celebrated on the same day in Germany. So in a crowd of thousands I was the only person who wished him well for Father's Day while he was there... I still aspire to shake his hand some day. I have tremendous respect for him and he's by far the smartest man to ever run this country. A working class Hero is something to be ~ Lennon

Lots. They're just like regular humans, except most of them secretly have contempt for people who lionize them. Of course, this doesn't stop them from lionizing celebrities they admire.

Had a skilift-ride with Rob Schneider at a Tahoe ski-resort(I know....), shook hands with Prince after a Vegas Aftershow, drank beers with Paul Weller in a bar in Amsterdam, smoked a joint with George Clinton just before his show.....

Ex-Moderator | I've met lots of rock stars over the years, but I'm not sure many of them would be considered celebrities.
And I'm not sure any of them would remember me. |

I´ve met a lot of celebrities but I can´t really remember all of them.
Had a chat with Eric Leeds in Hamburg, also met Sheila E.there ( 1994), saw Prince briefly in Berlin 1994 being driven around and his car stopped right in front of us, had to wait for my plane with Moritz Bleibtreu in London....Thomas fucking idiot Gottschalk, Hans Kulenkampff, Uwe Seelers, Morris Hayes ( well, that was not really "meeting a celebrity" but spending a day with one of the nicest people I ever met in my life, he´s got class), Ice-T near the Reeperbahn, Naomi Campbell, Jean Paul Gaultier, George Michael,Aerosmith,Herbert Grönemeyer, Prince on several occasions ( really funny occasions), Manuela Testolini(duh!),Fatih Akin, some football pros I don´t give a shit about, my former mayor, and my former mayor in the 80s , and Cem Özdemir during a discussion panel, and probably a few other people I don´t remember. I've met a number of political rock stars.
Celebrities don't interest me. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

KoolEaze's post inspired me to write down my list (and also Marroussia's Horst Tappert post ). Although I´m sure I am forgetting someone.
I met Terence Trent D'Arby/Sananda Maitreya several times and had the chance to spend some time with him and talk quite a bit with him, some members of his family and his band. I met Prince (without interacting much with him) and spent some time with some of his band members (Levi Seacer, Greg Brooks), I had several chats with Miko Weaver, Matt Fink and Cat while I only chatted shortly with Sheila E, Rosie Gaines, the Game Boyz, one of the hornheads (don't remember who it was ), Wally Safford, Mayte, I am sure there were more .... I talked to John McEnroe several times and also Patrick McEnroe. I was introduced to Yannik Noah whose band even covered "Kiss" for me, although he himself didn't sing it, but his bass player who was a huge Prince fan. I met and talked to Mother's Finest several times over the years as my best friend is a close friend of them. Nobody here will know Marque as he is a local celebrity, but he is a very talented musician who had some hits in Austria/Germany some time ago and is currently working on a rock opera that will debut in Vienna next year. He is one of the nicest people I have ever met and I am proud to call him a friend. Oh and I just remember I met Osbahnkurti several weeks ago who is a local celebrity here in Austria . I knew I'd forget someone edit [Edited 9/23/08 6:52am] With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! Actually 90% of the celebrities I met are people I truly admire. I just don't start talking to celebrities I don't care about. I could have talked to people like Boris Becker or Niki Lauda, but I was't interested and just was standing near them without starting a conversation .
