Eye irritation from computer monitors

Do you ever get watery, burning and/or crusty eyes from extended periods of computer use? If so, what do you do to combat it?

You should always take an "eye break" when staring at a computer monitor for too long. It's like staring at a lightbulb.

First, is your monitor a flat-screen monitor?

The best thing to do is use one of the flat screen, with as highest resolution as you can get.
There are also screen protectors that help reduce the glare that hits your eyes.

Finally, you have to take occasional breaks.

It's not your monitor, it's Imago's avatars.

Happens to me quite a bit. I usually just take a break and close my eyes for a while. Also, I've started wearing my glasses (rather than contacts) more at work.

I have bad eyes anyway but yes, the computer bothers my eyes a lot. I am looking to change careers so I won't be so tied to my pc. That's a little way down the road though so I have to put up with it for now.

Yes.

A large part of the irritation is not just from the glare but actually from particles of dust and other matter that bounce off the screen directly into your eyes and face. If you wear glasses, you prolly see a film of grime or dust on your lenses after being in front of a computer screen for awhile. This is why. geek

Make sure the room your in is well lit up too, you will do some damage to your eyes if your in a dark room with a monitor on...that even goes for TVs too....but not as much.
When taking a break from using your PC relax your eyes and looking at things far off in the distance also helps readjust your eyes too smile

I have had crusty, gritty eyes, but it was while I was AWAY from my computer for 5 weeks nuts
I used anti-bacterial eye drops and it went away
