Holy moley, Batman! That is just naaaaastiness right there, that is. My friend told me about a former co-worker of mine who thinks she's the queen and her kids are her servants. It's up to the kids if she has a clean apt. My friend said her room was so bad w/ the cigarette butts and even a used tampon. "When words fail, music speaks..." --- Shakespeare

My friend bought them mattresses and stuff cuz the mama wouldn't. It interfered w/ her Starbuck's habit. I was told she had piles of old foul smelling Starbuck's cups laying about w/ cigarette butts in them. Ewww... "When words fail, music speaks..." --- Shakespeare

She tells me just to put it to the side so she can look through it later - she can't bear things unaccounted for, and worries there might be something there she needs later. The trouble is there is such an overwhelming amount of stuff, it CAN'T just be looked through later. If it was laziness she would just say sure, go for your life and let me throw it all out, but they are her "possessions", not "trash" in her eyes. http://www.vimeo.com/603058 here is an excellent documentary if anyone is interested.

I think there's a difference between hoarders & this person who lives in this apartment. Hoarder's, for whatever reason, can't get rid themselves of their possesions. This person couldn't be bothered to throw away her garbage. Either she was too lazy, has mental illness, or just didn't give a f*ck.

i believe she's a horder. didn't you see zombie's post where she said about her friend, "they are her "possessions", not "trash" in her eyes." the pile of empty cigarette boxes on the second sofa screams horder. my uncle was most certainly depressed, lazy and didn't give a fuck. but he was still a horder. he never threw out anything ever. and yet i know the chaos of his life wore him down. he knew that he had to keep his income tax papers organized but the sheer amount of stuff he had overwhelmed him. and yet to disrupt his disorder was very upsetting to him. he would get very angry when we would throw 2 year old newspapers in the recycling.

I kind of agree, but there are many hoarders who aren't slobs, and they keep all of their junk neatly organized. This person doesn't seem like she's simply hoarding, but has some other issue, too. Actually her house doesn't look that different than John Frusciante's did during the depths of his drug addiction (aside from the painting on his walls), as seen in this film by Johnny Depp

I think she/he has a mental illness. Am I the only one who feels the urge to clean up that persons house?....besides the bathroom and cat stuff. unlucky7 reincarnated

(please god tell me the answer will be no) She has a child, and she DOES understand a child should cannot live in an environment like this. Her bathroom is actually very clean (not like in pics above) but there is so much stuff in her one bedroom apartment, things get lost, often food, which then can't be found again. She has reached out to me and 3 other friends who are helping her. She has case workers and support people that come and hold the baby while she tries to get control of her situation. I don't actually see where the excuses part comes in I really think you have no idea. I see desperation in my friend's eyes, desperation to be normal again.

I didn't mean she should get help cleaning...I mean she needs therapy. It seems perhaps your friend is NOT like the pictures above? I imagine if she were, those case workers would be taking that baby away from her. the excuses I'm talking about are the " I can't get rid of this or that because..." excuses. She needs to seek professional counceling...I'm glad she has friends like you who are willing to help but I wonder if you all aren't just enabling her instead. I really hope she gets the help she needs for the sake of that poor little baby and herself. "not a fan" yeah...ok

I wondered that too at first I read up on it, apparently those folks who are basically forced to just get rid of everything, usually just start all over again as soon as they can. I'm no professional, but at least I can be a friend. I haven't actually read any success stories, sadly My friend wouldn't have opened her doors to anyone in the past, but she is now desperate for change. This person in the photos above probably doesn't want to change yet. Who knows?
